How many times do real UK fans have to tell you, nobody still wants Calipari, even after this mess. I dont want his mess ether they both sucked, UK needs someone who can actually coach which Calipari and Pope can't. All they are, are hypemen at best.

I disagree that he is awful. He's just not suited for the bright lights of an elite program. I think he's been used to have recruits come to HIM because of the school or circumstances (BYU), and not having to actually tell kids what they need to hear.

Both things can be true at the same time. The Calipari that was here in 2024 wants the Cal of 2009, The one coaching at Arkansas now, who is doing the very things we begged him to do wasn’t here. It was time for a change, but Mark Friggin Pope was not even on the map of coaches to even consider to replace him. Yet lazy ***, incompetent Mitch Barnhart did. He also gave him an auto renewal yet for no reason what so ever. Make him at least make a final 4 before you get an incentive like that.
No he is terrible. He is terrible at game prep, he’s terrible at player development, he’s terrible at substitutions. He is terrible at recruiting. I can’t think of anything that he does that an elite program coach should do. He doesn’t work the refs, he’s doesn’t inspire confidence, like another poster said earlier. It’s a fake confidence he has, no real fire. Clapping while getting drubbed isn’t motivation.
I’d love to have his recruiting and I’d sure much rather have him coaching still vs. this. That said, it was time for the “right” change. This wasn’t close to the right choice.
And the worst thing is that if he is let go, Barney is here until June and he would probably involved in choosing a successo.
None of the UK fans I know wanted Pope. Although many supported him after he was hired (because what else are you going to do?), they have been critical of his rotations, recruiting, and composure for much of the season.
