Sigh, 28-27 Purdue at the half. Bright spot Nigia Green with 3 3's. I'm sure CVS will right the ship.

28-27 PU at the half.
18-14 EDGE TO ru in 2nd quarter is a sign of hope that 2nd half goes RU's way.
I always look for the positive and Rutgers 4 point edge in 2nd quarter is a positive compared to being down 5 instead of just 1 at the half.

Need to play Scaife more. She sat out almost half the time. Unless Viv needs to rest her for health reasons.

Our center and forwards remain good rebounding but abysmal shooting layups under the basket.

Sadly, one thing both Rutgers teams have in common is the difficulty in making layups and put backs.Rutgers leads 44-42 at the end of third quarter.

Rutgers offense totally dependent on Scaife and she isn't having a good game.

C-Viv is one game closer to a thousand and RU is closer to being ranked. At 13-2 it seems unlikely that we wouldn't.

Nerve wracking is right. Lots to learn from this game, hopefully too much turkey consumption over the holiday. It was closer than the 58-50 score would indicate.

Hopefully it serves as a nice warm up for the rest of the B1G schedule

wasnt pretty at all and RU should have not had this much trouble with a team like Purdue but what I like was how they closed it out without an issue which is an improvement over previous seasons. Defense once again leads the way. Great game by Green. Good to be tested and respond but iwll have to play better at Mich State.

I'll enjoy the win and 13-2 record.
Along with knowing RU started conference play with a win.
All I know is PU came into this game 9-5 and left 9-6, but can't say their wins were against good teams or say all cupcakes.
Just will say, I won't put them in the cupcake category
and will consider this win a good one even if it took too long to put them away.

Ugly win. But a win is a win. Now we're 13-2 and we moving on. And C. Viv is closing in on 1,000 victories in her illustrious career.

Players are most likely rusty. It was a long layoff.
I mentioned this in a different thread. And they were. 1 for our first 14 shots. Tyler was off. We had trouble with layups and easy put backs. But they played defense and kept Purdue from taking any significant lead. Just enough offense at the end to win. Purdue will do well this year. They are a young team. On to Michigan State.

Yes you did. I think it was mostly rust, too, because it wasn’t lack of effort... in fact, the effort on D was terrific and it’s what kept us in the game.

P.S. I still remember losing that heartbreaker to Purdue in Normal Illinois. I was there, and anytime we beat them is extra sweet!

they are in the mid 50s...Purdue isnt a NCAA team. Its the kind of team RU needed to beat absolutely.

Purdue may be an NIT team. Who knows what happens once conference play kicks in, they upset a few teams, catch a few breaks. At this point in the season , any win over a top 100 RPI team is a good win. Beating a conference opponent, after a long layoff and the team is rusty, is always good.
Purdue also hit 10-10 from the Foul line, although RU was also good w 14-17.

Now let's beat Michigan St on Sunday.

Having not watched the game, the box score does seem to reveal just a lot of rust on the shooting touch. RU out-rebounded Purdue 42-37, shot a very good 14/17 from FT line and an excellent 6/11 from 3-pt range. When I first saw the team only scored 58 pts I was worried they were turnover machines, but 14 turnovers is an okay number (not great, but definitely not awful--that being said, Cryor can't have a 2/5 a/to line).

Harris/Carey/Jenkins need to be stronger around the basket with their shots. Our post players can't go 4/16 from the floor--won't get it done on a nightly basis. Carey and JEnkins did rebound well, however.

Very nice to see Greene shoot it well, and while Sanders didn't have a great shooting night, 9 assists to 2 TOs is exceptional.

Purdue was a 23 win/ NCAA team last year with 10 conference wins. This Purdue team, w a 56 RPI, is better than I , and others thought, coming into this game.

At the end of the day, all you can do is win your own games and let the RPI take care of itself. Can’t rest on any laurels (see: Men’s team) .. time to take it to MSU! Big game
