A really positive takeaway from today's game was the offense's adjustment to stop playing around out up high and to start attacking to score. Players cutting to the basket to get layups. A gem of a game by Dickson, orchestrating everything almost flawlessly. Tim's gotta figure out a way to be more aggressive earlier in the shot clock. Offensive sets develop so slowly, we end up turning it over before we ever even looked at the basket.
One thing I think Tim may be undervaluing would be the positive impact that Sakima brings when inserted into the lineup. Her length may not block every shot, but it often alters or bothers them in deep around the basket. I thought her presence along with Tiya and Osh allowed us to have the rebounding edge and keep the scoring close. Md was getting one shot per trip in that 1st quarter. Tim went away from it for the rest of the game.
When he came with Sidibe and then Destiny, we lost ground. No way those two can handle the height of Bibby, Collins, and Reese. That was probably why Sidibe was so antsy today. And I know Destiny scored a lot of points at her former school, but she has to shoot a better percentage if she's going to be so quick to shoot when she gets in. She brings toughness but hurt us today with some poor shot attempts at crucial moments of the game.
I really think Sakima is closer than any of our posts to being a double digit scorer every game. Her misses, IMO, are from bench rust. The more she plays, the less surprising it will be to her that she is actually getting shot opportunities, and they will start to fall.
Tiya was terrific on the boards today and played solid defense for the most part. The footwork is still problematic though. The turnovers are tough when playing from behind. She has got to get someone to help her with that footwork before or after practice.
