I just found out that I got picked as one of 25 for the new fan advisory board. I want to be able to take your concerns to the board and would appreciate you posting here. Especially for the WBB program. My first meeting is 2/19/15.

Congrats! Two things: promotions and advertising. And let's get back to the band playing more songs.

That's three.

Thanks and good luck!

I have an observation about basketball parking egress. I've noticed the parking attendants attempting to direct traffic this year and it's been pretty much a nightmare since they are amateurs. The red lot on the south side seems to be almost empty by the time the green lot starts to empty out and it's because the amateur traffic directors are stopping cars coming from the north side (there are a LOT more cars coming from that direction). What has worked really nicely in the past is allowing people to exit themselves without any intervention. It's been a pretty orderly situation with people allowing every other car to exit from each of the lots and exits. I think simply allowing that to happen and even posting signs to that effect will permit a very smooth exit from the lots without a lot of aggravation on the part of the fans.
Scarlet lot exit for football also needs a major improvement but it sounds like you have that on your radar already.
Thanks!

Thank you all I have noted all your concerns. I actually have 12 things to bring to the board between wbb and fb. The mbb has been down because of Yahoo.

I have the same complaint for MBB. There seems to be a preference for people in the Red lot over the Green lot. I park in the Green lot because my seats are on that side of the RAC. But I pay the same as people in the Red lot (and probably donate more than half the people in the Red lot).

Although I don't think a free-for-all works well for games with high attendance, they need to do a much better job directing and coordinating traffic. (And they should cover the stop sign at the end of Hospital Rd when people don't have to stop because they have a clear right turn.)

I would like to thank you both for volunteering your time to be on the advisory board.

I would like you to discuss some healthier choices at the concessions. A couple of years ago they had a decent chicken caesar wrap that they sold out of a refrigerator behind the Rita's Ice stand. Also a caffeine and sugar free beverage like Fresca or diet sprite would be great. Often times I would like to get dinner during the game and the lure of typical stadium food is great, but I always suffer later after eating it! Water is $4 is this really necessary!

I also feel bad that the pep band has a diminished role in the game day experience. They really add to the atmosphere. Having said that I think they do a great job with the National Anthem, but I would like to hear it sung most of the time.

I know these are minor issues compared to filling the seats and ticket prices but it would make a long time ticket holders game experience even better.

Congratulations to you both.
Top of my concerns are marketing of team, greater activities to bring in kids, comparison of ticket prices and costs to park with other Big 10 schools.
My local college, at every home game, has lottery to pay for a semester of students books. Student must be present to win. Also drawing for free haircuts, dinner cards to favorite restaurant in town, free pedicures. These are only college student offers to bring them to games.
Good luck. Appreciate you time and effort..

I wonder if RU reached out to old NJ Net season ticket holders that were disappointed with the move to Brooklyn and don't p[lan on going to many games there.
Enticing them with promotional packages to the WBB & MBB games might bring in some fans from that group.
Might not be successful, but because it might not doesn't mean it can't succeed.
Finding that list might be a problem , but worth trying to find if contacting those season ticket holders sounds like a good idea to bring in more fans. Or at least think about becoming one.

Congrats and best wishes to you both. It's great to have an advocate (or two) who reads this message board. Mostly my concerns have been posted by fellow fans, except for the lack of enough handicap parking spaces. They know how many are needed because we pay for them in advance and where they are - Scarlet or Green. I usually arrive 45 minutes before the game and often the spaces are gone in Green.

You can give kudos, however, for the new hand railings. I can now reach my seat almost as fast as I could in 1988. ... And do it standing upright!

Thanks for offering to take our comments to the committee! It gives us all a voice.

Very minor complaint, but I'll go for it anyway. The PA announcer at today's gymnastics meet was the same individual who does RU soccer. He is SO over the top with theatrics that it takes away from the event. He has a nice voice, but his delivery is absolutely annoying. I think he's auditioning for WWE. Can I suggest that he tone it down...way down? Thanks.

I agree 100% on the announcer!! He is sooooo annoying, both at soccer games and at gymnastics. I've heard the same comments from many people around me at these events. He really needs to tone it down.

Congratulations

Promote promote promote :

Increase the number of discount group tickets available to school students, youth club members, and all other youth groups. Fill up the upper tiers with screaming kids. Identify the groups and send them an invite to a game. Don't wait for them to contact RU.
With the right strategy and know-how, this fan base can be nurtured and grown.,

Again, congratulations.

Speaking from a student's perspective (I'm in the Riot Squad) he's got a lot of fans in our section. Every student I've talked with has said that he sounds great.

ScarletWoman, I'd really like you to take up the amount of student exposure they give to our non-football teams with the board. As a student and huge fan of athletics, it hurts when I show up at a matchup of two top twenty five B1G teams and there is no one there. Not even no one yelling, but no one THERE. And I'm not talking just about women's basketball, I'm talking soccer too. There is very little advertisement compared to Football, when they do media blitzes out the wazoo, there are Fraternities and Sororities selling T-Shirts for fundraisers, etc.

When you have a perennial top 25 team which goes to tournaments on a regular basis, I don't care if they're "Not as exciting as men's basketball." (to use the phrase I heard a student use) I want my athletic department playing it up, making Students understand just how good of a team they have playing in their own backyard. It just doesn't happen.

Also, as a suggestion, what about having "Athletic Event" buses? They could stop at Student Centers, then go directly to the event, then back. Perhaps have them run once or twice an hour or so pre-event, and then directly post-event. Not only would it make commuting to the event easier, it would make it more obvious that there is something happening to those who don't know.

Finally, get those cheers out there, and those rosters. They've started charging a dollar for papers with rosters on them, well, give them out free to the students, and have the second side covered in RU chants so that people can follow along.

And please do let me know if they picked a student for the board.

Now that it is getting down to crunch time in the Big Ten. I wished last night that the scores from around the league were announced or put up on the score board. This is something commonly done at other arenas.

This isn't bball-specific (because the RAC already has them), but could you please ask if they're putting B1G school banners in the other athletic venues and student centers? The other B1G univiersities do that (including Maryland, with flags on their football stadium and banners at the entrances to their campus... TTFP has banners inside their student union and Minnesota has flags in the middle of their athletic complex).

Actually, I saw scores from other games around the league on the side boards last night. They were displayed quite often as a matter of fact.

Congrats on being selected to the Fan Advisory Board to both of our reps. I think lowering ticket prices for WBB would encourage more people to attend the games. When we travel to away games, the tickets are usually priced far below RU's ticket prices. It is absolutely critical to recruit younger fans and students to attend games. Our older fan base is declining due to health reasons and replacing those loyal fans is necessary. MBB attracts students, but our student section is usually empty. I agree with the suggestion of running buses from the NB campus directly to the RAC. RU needs to promote the games throughout the university to get more students, faculty and staff to attend. I think they are doing a good job with the promotions but could bring in more halftime entertainment (though what we have had has been good). Building awareness of the RUWBB brand and its record of excellence would help. Many of us got hooked on RUWBB just by attending a few games with friends, as a result of free tickets, etc., and many of us have stayed on as dedicated fans for years since. Get them to the RAC, show them the product on the court and they will come back. But getting them there is the critical factor and RU hasn't scratched the surface of doing that. By the way, the Cagers Club helps to promote the team by having pre-game huddles, running bus trips, handing out Big Heads of the players and encouraging signs, and maintaining an active website and Facebook page where we always promote the team by sharing the RU Athletics posts and creating our own. Please visit the www.cagersclub.com website or stop by the Facebook page to help us spread the word. We feature photos and other info that you might find of interest. https://www.facebook.com/CagersClubRutgersWomensBasketball

I have a couple of minor irritations. 1. Quit taking the freakin' caps off the water and soft drink bottles. I've been going to men's and women's games at the RAC for over 20 years and have Never seen ANYTHING thrown onto the court - especially a $4 bottle of water. I have, however, seen plenty of drinks spilled in the stands when someone knocked over a bottle wit no cap. I usually bring my own cap, but sometimes forget. 2. It really ticks me off to have opposing teams' fans sitting in the 100 level for women's games and 200 level for men's. Put the up in the nosebleeds instead of with season ticket holders.

I guess I'm in the minority regrading the band. I don't want them playing more music unless they throw in some acoustic guitars or something other than brass. Before we started getting more piped-in music a couple of years ago, many of us in 105 had to wear earplugs in our right ears and could not carry on a conversation with someone sitting in the next seat because the music was so loud at every break in the action. Plus, It seems as though the music is the same as it was 5 years ago, 10 years ago. However, I love the bands involvement when they start singing or yelling out things. IMO that's where they really add to the experience. It also makes me wonder what in heck they had to drink before the game.

None of the above would ever keep me from coming to the games, but they are occasional irritants.

bumping this thread... let me know if I should merge it with the other one pinned to the top.
(disclaimer: I don't know exactly what happens when you merge threads. LOL)
