we have friends in fairlea...their family was headed there with pumps to help get the water out of the basementI texted thumper this AM and he said his family was OK. Terrible mess and tragic results.
Yes, my family is fine. Thankfully, our house is on high ground and wasn't affected. But the town has been decimated. Many homes were lost. The downtown area where most of the businesses are located is hit hard. There is (was) a nursing home that is ruined. Schools, library, fire dept, city hall, ball fields....just awful. But in the true Mountaineer spirit, West Virginians-including expats-have stepped up and are helping. Former Richwooders have gathered clothing, water and cleaning supplies and have made the trip from all parts of the country to do their part. I've read of people who were on their way camping in the Cranberry Wilderness who have stopped in Richwood to help. And FEMA is on site. Although the town has been hit with the worst disaster in its history, there is hope that this will be a chance to rebuild-a renaissance of a dying old town which had already fallen on hard times. There has been a fund set up for people to make donations and I'll post it here once I have the link. Here are some links to some photos of the devastation....saw some pictures of the devastation in Richwood......all of your folks ok?
