We have needed to invest in infrastructure for 20 years. And it goes way beyond roads and bridges. So it's either tolls (which I personally love) or fire up the printing press. I figure 30% of this bill is wasteful pork, but as Fishwater can attest... 80% of stimulus payments wen to people that didn't need them last year. 30% waste is a big improvement.

Honestly, if you want to directly tie road and bridge taxes to actual usage, mileage based taxes, that incorporate weight and axle count of the vehicle are most "fair" as far as placing the cost on the person consuming. I think we pay about $0.40/gallon in taxes now, the European average is over a dollar per gallon, seems like it is closer to $1.50 (way too lazy to Google it). The fact is that when it comes to being asked to pay for our proportional impact, we much prefer collective effort over individual responsibility.

You need to learn how Mississippi politics works, my friend. As long as Wicker wants to be in Washington, he will be in Washington. Anyone that primaries him will get zero support from the Mississippi Republican Party, who bankrolls the candidate they want in every race.

Grassroots candidates like McDaniel and Waller may seem like they have momentum and can rock the Mississippi machine, but its fool's gold. Whatever it takes, the network will get their man (or woman) in. Do you think Cindy Hyde Smith is the best person to represent the state in the U.S. Senate? Hell no. But she was the pick the network made after Tate turned it down to be governor.

Agree regarding Gov Reeves in 2023. Nobody has the money to beat him. However LG Hoseman will be 80 in 2027. While obviously he couldn’t live until 100 I think it is going to be difficult to feel confident he runs in 2027 and certainly not in 2031.

Infrastructure improvements are sorely needed. But that 30% number of yours is too low, and that's the problem. And yes, the stimulus payments were a problem, too.

Inflation is already a problem. It's about to be a really big problem.
