This is an excerpt from a note a friend of mine sent...Steve was a seat mate of ours in the Lettermen's Section not long after he came back to Norman, when his pro career was over. He always represented well...Both his Owens Family, along with OUr Sooner Family, ...

Dear Sooner Nation:
Today is a sad day for our Nation and it will be on the News shortly....I just got a call from Steve Owens office and at 6 am this morning Tinker and Steve Owens lost the Matriarch of their family, their beautiful mother, in Miami, Ok. Steve was with her all night and she passed peacefully this morning. She was the biggest and truest of all OU fans. Please say a little prayer for the Owens family and remember their legacy.

The funeral will be Monday in Miami.

A name that will live forever in Sooner lore. I bet she was some kind of women the way she raised Tinker and Steve. They were nothing but nice to me the few times I dealt with them. RIP.....

BTW, what was the third brothers name? It's slipped my memory.

I've never had the pleasure of visiting any of the Owen's family though one of Steve's HS classmates works for my Dad and Brother. I wish I could be there.

Jimbo played a bit. Have visited with him a few times because he's friends with my wife's fam. Very funny guy and super nice, of course they all are. Jimbo told me once that Tink was his favorite OU player, not because he was his brother, but because all the pretty ladies used to follow him around so he'd catch one every now and then. lol!
