Marty was my kind of coach. Old school all the way.

The San Diego Chargers ownership didn't deserve him. They fired him after the 2006 season where they finished with a regular season record of 14-2. 14 and 2 !!! They lost in the divisional round 21-24 to the Pats.

That franchise totally blew it.

Marty will be missed. One of my favorites. RIP coach.

Rest In Peace Coach!
my only Marty story was at a Senior Pro Am in KC. My kid and I were walking by a practice green and Fuzzy Zoeller was putting. I stopped and asked him if he would mind autographing my kid's hat. He said "would I mind? Nah come on over here." So he did. Marty was on the green too and saw all of this happen. We then walked up to the #1 tee box and after a few minutes my kid wanted a bottle of water so I went to get us a couple. On the way back Marty saw me walking along the ropes with my hands full of water and asked from about 6 feet away "want an autograph?". I just smiled and looked at my hands and told him my hands are full and I don't have anything for you to sign. He looked like a kid who you just told to stay out of the cookie jar.

He lived just long enough to see the Chiefs lose as postseason favorites again. In all seriousness he was everything a football coach should be.
