Today was disappointing for sure, if you’re up nine with the ball inside the final 13 minutes you should win the game. There are long term issues with late-game execution and perimeter shooting.
But entering Vegas on Sunday from the Kennesaw game I think a lot of people feared the bottom completely falling out and that didn’t happen. We got a likely Q2 win over ND and against Alabama/A&M had a BARTHAG (Torvik’s sort of efficiency metric) of .8795, 28th nationally and 42nd including ND. Our defense let up just over a point per possession against a top-40 offense and was +5 on the glass against an elite team in that regard. Pikes working through some bugaboos I think.
It sucks that we missed a chance at a Q1, maybe even Q1A win. Sucks that we put ourselves behind the 8-ball at KSU and with our previous performances in the OOC. But I think there’s a bit of catastrophizing about a team that’s been playing NCAA tournament caliber ball recently
