Can someone remind me did Ricky Stanzi ever get a snap in an NFL regular season game? I think I remember him playing some preseason. Such a shame he never got more of an opportunity….he had the size and arm to be an NFL quarterback.

Yep pick six Rick got a royal screwing and some REALLY bad timing getting drafted in KC. That was the year they played without a CBA so there was basically no OTA's or much training camp. He played some in the pre season and played pretty well as I remember given he had little actual work with his team mates. Then he got caught up in the whole Todd Haley disaster. Haley was on his way out and he was out of his mind paranoid about it. He thought his office was bugged. He basically did everything he could to sabotage the program on the way out. They had brought in another QB (Tyler Palco) who had played for 4 or 5 other teams and had sucked everywhere he been. I think Orton and Cassel were both injured because Haley played Palco some anyway instead of Ricky. Ricky should have gotten a shot, but Haley did everything he could to tank the season on his way out the door. It was almost as bad as Long getting drafted by the Lions while they replaced their head coach, and the new one wanted an offense that Chuck was a really bad fit for, so their #1 pick carried a clipboard most of his career while Everett (who played at Purdue) had pretty good success wit the Rams.

Pretty sure I watched him play for the Chiefs. Might have been a preseason though but I didn't think so.
It was during the preseason. They had no offensive line in the game and it was snap and duck. Had no time to do anything.
This is too true. Unless they're say top 3 round draft picks, it all depends on where they go and the situation they're in. Add the fact they need to have luck with injuries and you've got a tough road to travel. I still think James Morris is/was an NFL linebacker but couldn't stay healthy and wasn't in the best situation with the Cowboys
Riley McCarron is probably 30th just on Kirks all time receivers list and still got to play in the NFL when guys like Hinkel and Solomon didn't (yes he fumbled his only touch, a punt return, in his only game but he also got a Super Bowl ring for that one game effort). Derrick Willies left Iowa to play at Texas Tech (with that Mahomes kid), and by the last half of his senior year there had been benched and didn't even get to suit up for senior day or the bowl game, and yet he survived practice squad spots until the right guys at the right time get hurt. Sure he only caught three passes for an awful Browns team and the first on a fake FG at that, but that's more than Marvin McNutt (only had two NFL tackles) or Kahlil Hill (4 punt returns in one game) that were better than him. It's almost a coin flip on who will end up in the right place at the right time when you are a replacement level player to begin with.
Actually it goes for EVERY round in the draft. Chuck Long was a top 15 pick in round one and his whole career was derailed by being drafted by the Lions while they hired a new HC and decide to run an offense that did not fit him at all. Now if he'd have been picked by the Rams, Cowboys or numerous teams that used a drop back passer his career might have been solid.
Agree that it goes for every round, but those drafted in the top 3 rounds have a longer leash than others. If Kaleb Johnson wasn't drafted as high as he was, I don't think he'd still be with the Steelers.
What about CJ?
I see all of these teams trading for backup quarterbacks who I have never heard of. CJ is at least experienced and healthy.
Does a few years of training and staying ready to go not count for anything? behind a starter who was designated as a future superstar?
