So our NIL will be roughly the same next year as it is now?
I'm sure it will be increased, but I doubt there is a set number.. Matt doesn't want to talk about it now, hence the "we can do whatever" comment. The main point I wanted to put out there, is Matt called out donors by saying he didn't have enough money. I'm sure this upset some and I suspect the AD told him to tone down all the money talk. This is really more about removing NIL as a "blame point" for future failure. I don't know what the soft limit is, but I suspect there could be some back and forth if they need a little bit more money to round out the class etc.

I agree with about 90% of this.
On the other hand, they’ll make TJ an offer. They KNOW he’ll get other offers. We know they’re very high on Taylor coming in. How much of your salary pool do you allocate to QBs? It’s going to be interesting to see how things work out. I think they’ll do their best to keep both QBs and Rhule has already stated that they’re going to pay some high profile recruits before they ever play so Taylor is gonna get paid.

I thought he said some people wanted to get paid before they produce, (alluding to your last sentence) so part of me thinks that while yes high school recruits will get paid, I don't think they are going to get the same kind of money a portal player would get. (position dependent of course)

...feels like most Husker fans are under the impression its just a given DR is coming back. Maybe he does.. but the TJ story line is still being written. We'll see if DR can turn down the kind of money he'll attract at schools that can offer him a better line to go with.

A lot hinges on how we finish the last two games plus bowl game. We could go 3-0 thanks in large part to TJ. Or TJ could struggle, turn the ball over, and we go 0-3. We will have to wait and see what happens. The portal doesn’t open until Jan 2, so teams should be intact for the bowls except for a few NFL bound guys.

Lateef may play very well and the Husks may still lose out. All of the post suggesting that the Huskers need to win the final 2 conf games and the bowl game for Lateef to be considered a legit QB option are not seeing the full picture.

It's hard to function if, next year, we have $ 4Million tied up in 3 QB's of which only 1 might play barring injury. If EJ declares then we need to pony up some real dough to find someone comparable. I think they've gotten their money's worth out of Rocco, and Pritchett is making good progress, same with Nwarmi.

I can't imagine we don't have enough depth in some of the young OLinemen we've had for 2-3 years now that are not ready to step in and do the job. If they aren't ready, they need to jettison Donovan Raiola yesterday, because there's no excuse for that. It's not like they have to be honorable BIG, they just have to be able to do the job.

I re-watched the game from Saturday and it's clear TJ was strictly first option gets the ball, I didn't see much progression reads. He seemed to run the play as it was called in. That's gonna be a tall task going forward as teams get more deceptive in their alignment. I'm anxious to see how TJ responds when that first option is not open and if he can go to the second read, throw the ball away, or just tuck in and run.

There were 2 plays in the UCLA game where the defender was just a step away from an INT. The first was on the initial drive which was the TD throw and the other was the bubble pass to Hunter. Not much space between the defender and the receiver. If one gets picked I'd have to see what it does to his confidence, may as well find out sooner rather than later.

They may have enough faith in Trae coming in to let somebody walk if they get greedy. I know one thing. My Vikes wish they had ponied up the money to keep Darnold and/or Jones. Jones I liked as a QB even when he was failing a couple of years ago and I got ridiculed on here for my opinion of his talent.

The “reason” for me is still the cluster fudge we had in recruiting Raiola’s first two years. Ideally you want to be starting at a minimum 3rd year guys. The problem is Rhule’s first class was a late transition class and none of the recruits knew if Raiola was going to be there until very late. We pretty much lost two years of recruiting. This past O line class is the one I’m most interested to see start contributing but man they’re young.

Too many freak outs about this and that about 2026, the season has two games to be played and hopefully it will turn out great, then we can start to worry about 2026.

Given the choice, I would keep TJ all day long before DR. With Taylor coming into the fold, its obvious NU will be transitioning into a dual threat QB situation whenever Dyland leaves or transfers. The list of schools with near zero mobility like DR is very small compared to kids that can do both.

I think that's a ******** excuse for our young OLine's development. At a minimum, when DR goes, so should Donovan. We needs some new blood, fresh eyes there by someone with some credibility.

Going forward, schools are increasingly going to need to choose between facilities upgrades and upgrading/maintaining the roster via NIL. NU already check the facilities upgrade box.
Let's hope for an NIL cap. At least force the cheaters to cheat again.

And yet the impartial stats show the line improving as the season goes on.

The high school accolades don't mean crap until they prove it on the field in big time football. I'd much rather pay a transfer some real money based on their prior having shown they can compete physically at the level that's needed.

College football is littered with highly paid high 4* and 5* kids who have not made, and may never make the jump to college excellence.

I don't think the bar should be set any higher for Lateef than it has been for DR for the last 1 3/4 years.
I didn't see very many people calling for Matt to pull the plug on DR when he was struggling.

For all the good things DR has done as the starter, he's made plenty of mistakes in that span. Most everyone, and most importantly the coaches, were willing to take the growing pains, same should be true for Lateef.
