If nothing(s) else, Matt has a long leash by virtue of his contract plus an amazing talent as a public speaker. That talent buys him a lot of good will that, for example, Bo didn’t enjoy.
The Huskers have shown improvement. But it’s been uneven. Biggest challenge now is yet another terrible OL. Also, while I know there are plenty of differing opinions, Dylan is a bit of a unicorn. Fantastic arm; but lack of mobility is a real liability. And I’m not impressed with Holgerson’s (in)ability to run the offense knowing DR needs to make quick reads and passes—for more than 6 ypc.
The OL is a longterm project. When it comes to acquiring and/or developing difference makers there, there are not many quick fixes available. Imho, this buys Rhule some time.
That said, absent winning the games we should PLUS some we shouldn’t, by the end of 2026 or maybe even 2027, becoming a serious player on the national stage, he’s gone.
