This game actually started out being a pretty good game with no score after 1, and Riverheads leading 1 to 0 after 2 innings. In the 3rd inning the young Bulldogs (only 1 senior, 3 juniors, 3 freshman and 5 sophmores) had their first of 7 errors on the night, although it was still 3 to 1 after 3 innings. In the 4th, Riverheads got the bats going, and the Bulldogs had consecutive errors at 2nd and SS on easy fly balls, and backed that up with an error in left field 2 batters later on another catchable ball. Freshman Zach Wright pitched admirably against the defending state champs, only giving up 3 earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, but the Bulldog errors and Gladiator pitching was too much to overcome. In the 5th, the Gladiators broke it open and never looked back. The Gladiators do all the little things right, are very well coached, hit well 1 through 9, pitch and play good defense, and it's no shock they are still undefeated.

thanks for the recap. All I knew was the score until I saw the News Leader say 11-3 final. So I dont really know if it was 11-3 or 12-3 but it doesnt really matter.

If you add up the inning-by-inning box score in the Leader, the numbers do add up to 12. I think they just forgot to include the one run that the Big Red scored in the top of the 7th.

It was nice that they got this game played considering the threatening nature of the weather and I guess today will be more of the same as they were scheduled to go to Stonewall for a 5:30 first pitch with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast. Couldn't make that one either, so I guess all of us who stayed home will depend on the kindness of others to find out if they were able to play and how it turned out. As I type this, they would be in about the 3rd or 4th inning.
