The girls couldn’t have put on a better show for the recruits today! A tough gritty win in front of a sold out crowd. Hopefully the recruits could see themselves in Hawkeye uniforms someday!
Sure couldn't have hurt. Great game. Great win. Great atmosphere. The girls couldn’t have put on a better show for the recruits today! A tough gritty win in front of a sold out crowd. Hopefully the recruits could see themselves in Hawkeye uniforms someday!
I'm feeling pretty allergic to snow and cold right now.Any player who experiences a day like yesterday, with the Hawkeyes dominating #6 Michigan and the fans supporting them every second, and says no to Iowa must be allergic to snow and cold.
Iowa can outbid most schools for WBB.The sad part is that it might come down to $.
And potential of championship ringsThe sad part is that it might come down to $.
This. Home attendance / game day atmosphere is a positive in recruiting but obviously subordinate to other more important factors. It is overblown IMO. Fan support could possibly tip the balance though ..everything else being near equal in the recruit’s mind.Although it can't hurt, most recruiting results reveal that game attendance and atmosphere is pretty low on the list of things the wbb recruits look for. It doesn't completely make sense from fan perspective, but that seems to be the case.
Nation Williamsleistikow mentioned that 5 star recruit from vegas (name escapes me?) was having a great time and loving her visit before the game. the game itself probably didn't hurt.
I don't know, I have hearing loss from the last second shot by CC against Indiana.Listening to the post game on the radio, Kylie just said today was the loudest she has ever heard Carver. WTG to those in attendance.![]()
If enough top players come to Iowa, the championship rings will follow. There's nothing secret about how that works. And potential of championship rings
What else matters that Iowa can't at least match? Academics? Money? TV exposure? Playing for Kim or Geno or Dawn?Although it can't hurt, most recruiting results reveal that game attendance and atmosphere is pretty low on the list of things the wbb recruits look for. A lot of Midwest recruits yesterday. I do wonder who the possible "other" '27 recruit was going to be-- that (I guess) didn't make it.
Interesting that they bring in players that project to the same position on the same day. I wonder what the strategy is with that, or if it isn't strategy at all, just an open invite for visits on a weekend with a big game. Anyone know how they set up such a day?
Kylie was exaggerating. Recency bias. But that's okay. There have been plenty of really, really loud women's games at Carver the last few years, and Michigan was one of them.I don't know, I have hearing loss from the last second shot by CC against Indiana.
True. It was loud but not in the top 5 for me.Kylie was exaggerating. Recency bias. But that's okay. There have been plenty of really, really loud women's games at Carver the last few years, and Michigan was one of them.
Won't argue that at all.If enough top players come to Iowa, the championship rings will follow. There's nothing secret about how that works.
Yes. Yes. No. Yes. And one you forgot, location location location. What else matters that Iowa can't at least match? Academics? Money? TV exposure? Playing for Kim or Geno or Dawn?
Those are great questions. And yet, recruiting to Iowa still has hurdles. It helps to get the players to visit Iowa City, and the recent success of the program has helped make great strides getting players to at least have a look. Despite all the things that seem like they would be attractive to players from fan perspective--and yeah, including Caitlin Clark, for whatever reasons--it remains difficult. What else matters that Iowa can't at least match? Academics? Money? TV exposure? Playing for Kim or Geno or Dawn?
Iowa just had the best player in women's college basketball history, a woman who single-handedly changed the entire perspective of women's sports. It didn't happen at UConn despite its annual national titles. It didn't happen at LSU. It didn't happen at South Carolina or Texas or Michigan or Ohio State . . .
And I hear the weather in Connecticut ain't exactly palm trees and sandy beaches, so why shouldn't Iowa be as attractive as any school out there?
