I really think Coach Cal could take UK to the next level by bringing in some sort of recruiting specialist. Maybe it’s an NBA retired player, possibly an assistant coach.

Coach Cal can’t do this all by himself. Since Orlando bolted he has been relying on his current staff. Don’t give me wrong, we are still bringing in highly talented good character kids who can ball out. I just think in order for us to land the top-tier echelon of kids in that number 1 through number 5 ranking some things might need to be shaken up.

That being said, I believe that some sort of recruiting specialist is needed.

You think a recruiting specialist will outdo shoe money mercenaries?

Got a bridge for you...

Cal’s an excellent recruiter but can’t use free houses and dark money as other schools do.

What gets me about this discussion is that people think other places have better assistants than we do.

They think we need a cool former NBA star, meanwhile Jon effing Scheyer walks into Zion Williamson's living room and leaves with the best player in the country.

Look around you.

Two things I love about Rupp Rafters.

Whiny fans will complain and ***** about Cal etc yet offer no alternative for a coach when asked.

When asked who we should replace justus or another assistant etc with its crickets

The “cat” has been out of the bag regarding recruiting, for a few years now. Even the most skeptical fan is aware. Cal still continues to work his butt off regardless. I just wish our teams would reflect that change, and start returning players a little more consistently.

I feel...flattered that You’ve now followed me/ been on the lookout for me to comment the past two days.
If you’re still upset/ embarrassed from my comment directed to you yesterday and the day before I genuinely am sorry. My intention was not to embarrass you/ make you feel inferior in any way. I was just trying to be helpful :/

I hope, at least for today, you’re able to find some happiness. Happy Easter

Please be well brother

All these comments insinuating that other teams are paying players is kind of funny, because outside of Kentucky, Calipari is the one seen as being dirty. On MSN front page the other day an article about Keldon Johnson from TMZ, arriving to a restaurant in a 300,000 car and inside they joked about Calipari's image, next page over was Zion doing some dunk about a gender reveal. The national media hates Calipari and they our out to get him.

oh i didn't follow you. It's not necessary because I'm guessing you're involved in just about every single post made on this board. We just crossed paths. I'm not a stalker like the fun police/paid assassins. was just reading the post and sure enough, there's ole Frankie letting someone else have it!

Happy Easter and be well! I hope you find happiness at least on this one day as well. Maybe everyone can just for one day stop harassing other posters because we don't share their opinions...highly doubtful but who knows.

Too much is made about the assistants. They matter, but Cal knows if it’s a problem or not. Barbee was a top 10 assistant when Cal was at Memphis. So after head coaching experience and a job at Kentucky he’s suddenly junk? Not buying it.

I don’t think people realize how dirty this has become, and Cal just isn’t gonna play. He makes too much and he’s not safe enough to risk it.

I bet Kansas would kill to have Justus roaming their sideline. I bet Roy would love a guy like Barbee who’s known to be a great recruiter.

Sometimes it just isn’t as simple as it seems. You want Zion? You want Barrett? You want Ayton?

Your assistants aren’t the answers.

Well I’ll clean that up so everyone gets it.

1. We do need the cream of the crop within our system if we want to win a title if guys aren’t going to return at a good rate.

2. We need returning players to win a title. This was evident after we won the title due to the nba lockout. Not so much about upperclassman as returning players.

3. If they’re not as advertised, they should be recruited over. If they’re not as advertised (SKJ) then they shouldn’t be depended on. Sometimes a transfer is healthy if they’re recruited over and not as advertised. Recruiting over players is what great coaches do, but be careful you aren’t over recruiting a guy who will be a key contributor. Example? You don’t recruit over Darius Miller to the point he wants to transfer.

Mix that in a bowl and what comes out is what we need.

Bradley Kennedy is the recruiting analyst, not sure exactly what that is though lol. Maybe he subscribes to all the recruiting websites and gives Cal feedback. Lord I hope not, since again that is the assistant coaches job is to evaluate in person and not get info second hand.

There is only one team that recruits better than UK and that is Duke.

Why would Cal get a recruiting assistant/specialist when he literally recruits better than 99.9999% of the competition already?

Now if you want to talk about an offensive specialist that's a different story...

Hard work will win out. May be a bump or two but integrity, honor, and dedication are solid character traits I strive to be around. (Yeah, I'm alone a lot except at work, my wife, and my children. But, I do have some cherished friends. Oh well...)

Cal doesn’t need ANY specialist, recruiting, offensive, or otherwise. What he does need to change is the culture. The culture he brought with him, and worked for 5 or so years.

I don't think Cal needs a recruiting specialist. He still recruits just fine. The reason we aren't getting many of the elite players anymore has more to do with what other schools are doing. People that try to say recruits see that Cal can't coach or whatever are crazy. Many of these kids go to schools with mediocre to poor or unproven coaches. What needs to change is retention and a much better approach to offense.

Cal is doing great. He doesn't need anyone....just needs some kids to stay around. If anything adjust his approach. No one is winning OAD titles unless the next AD shows up.

The average Rafters poster could count the assistant coaches they know for teams besides Kentucky on one hand with fingers left over, but they're sure our guys aren't getting it done.

We already get a top 2 ranked class every year. What we need is a damn offensive specialist ... to help the guys we do have shoot and score better. Everyone on our staff is a defense guy .
