STORRS, Conn. – Sterling Gibbs scored a game-high 21 points to lead UConn over New Hampshire 85-66 in front of 9,047 fansTuesday night at Gampel Pavilion.
The fifth-year senior was red hot in the opening half, scoring 18 points on 6 of 7 shooting from the field and 4-for-5 on 3-pointers for the Huskies (2-0). Rodney Purvis added 20 points.
After leading 39-29 at the half, UConn opened the second with a 6-0 run and never trailed by double digits from there.
Daniel Hamilton scored all 13 of his points in the second half after sitting for more than 10 minutes prior to the break with foul trouble. Phil Nolan came off the bench to net nine points –the most since he scored 11 at Central Florida two seasons ago – to go with six rebounds.
Tanner Leissner led UNH (1-1) with 20 points.
