Really starting to wonder about the MSDH reporting

WTVA has been reporting since Saturady of a 48yo male from Itawamba co passing. That still is not in the stats.

Also, no mention of any recoveries (unless I'm missing it) I know it's a long process but with the first case back on Feb 23, you would think a couple may have recovered by now?

I guess if they are re0orting most of the data you can see the trends, just curious how much is added timely. Maybe that's why we see some of the dips and spikes.

It makes me wonder if most of our government statistics are normally crap, but we just never pay much attention or focus on them, unlike COVID, which puts them at center stage.

The U.S. Government on it's best days is grossly inefficient, horribly sloppy, & bordering on if not criminally negligent spending taxpayer dollars.

Right, but they may still have a competent statistician on staff? Seriously, I suspect that the primary issue is lack of standardized reporting and lack of a common healthcare database (i.e. garbage in/garbage out). Not a simple problem to solve.

Death reporting goes through coroners so there can be some delay. Huge variability in turn around time on the tests so - yeah, the daily new cases is an unreliable indicator. They try to compensate for that by reporting cases by disease onset and it is more useful but when they are still adding positives to dates from a good bit back, that may not be all that great either. The date of onset chart that is in one of the threads here is what I’m talking about. It is very encouraging if it is somewhat reliable.

oh and recoveries are really not being monitored nationally. There is no follow up on outpatients as it was felt to be a strain on resources. At some point they will be presumed recoveries I guess but this category will never be very useful in my opinion

They've been crediting cases and deaths to the counties where they were diagnosed/died. If you're from Perry Co. (god save you) but you go to Hattiesburg for testing/treatment etc. Many times that's been where your case was placed.

I know a few that have recovered in Lee county and in Lafayette.

When they started reporting in NE MS, it was the opposite. They reported your county of residence, not your treatment location. That was the way it was explained for the guy in Monroe county.

The local coroner was actually who the news credited with the report from Saturday.

They really need to establish a national standard on the reporting. Looking at worldometer (which links the MSDH for MS data) has a graph for US recoveries and has numbers from various states. Might be a little encouraging to tell how many are recovering instead of just getting sick or dieing.

I've seen it happening with my own eyes. The numbers aren't correct either. I saw people from two different counties in a local hospital for rona get credited to the county of the hospital.

I definitely think they need to just report the active cases, not the total number of cases. That is somewhat misleading. As Ozark Dog mentioned, there have to be a large number of cases where people were sick but have now recovered.
