Looks like we have Flowers...Anderson...Adams....Sermon....and possibly even Jalen Heard (Tennessee transfer) in the works for 2017. Heard has mentioned the Sooners a few times as a landing spot. With Mixon and Perine leaving....it would be a good fit. Guess time will tell....

Flowers has shown to be a good power runner in his only game at RB when Perine and Mixon were out.
Freshman Kennedy Brooks may also compete for playing time.
If Anderson can recover fully from both a broken leg and a neck injury, it will be huge.
Now I'm wondering if OU pursues another back.....perhaps another JUCO back.....to step in right away.

I've heard that Some think Anderson was the most talented RB on the team the last couple of years.
Just concerned that he won't be able to recover from a neck injury. They always seem to linger and never fully heal.

When talking RBs, you gotta talk O-Line too. I believe that the O-Line will also be much improved. The first 3 or 4 games this year there was a juggling act as Coach B was shuffling players in & out attempting to find a good fit etc. As a result, OU dropped two crucial games. But the O-Line dramatically improved as the season moved forward. As such, the run game should be in good shape next year w/ the RBs on the roster and the two incoming Freshmen. Hopefully the drop off won't be too bad.

As far as RB's, I think OU is going to be fine. Like WNAS said, with the OLine coming back next year should make a HUGE difference to make up for any lack of experience of any RB's that are needed to step up.

I'm more worried about replacing throwing targets for Baker. Andrews comes back. But 3 of the top 4 receivers are gone. Could make the first few games of the season rough until a reliable target emerges for Baker to throw to.

It's not just the starters. It's pretty much the entire 2 deep. Plus Flowers and Andrews. And Meier.

With the possible exception of Connor Knight, everyone who ever through a block this year, from 7 gap to 7 gap, will be back.

Plus you've got Mayfield slinging it to keep the D from stacking the box.

Talk about a Cadillac.

The next feature back at OU, whoever it is, will be an immediate Heisman contender.

Mixon made a mistake. I wish him well. But he just made a huge mistake.

Jalen Heard? The same Jalen Heard who quit the Vols team in mid-season? I'm assuming he's going to or did graduate if he is eligible for 2017. He did a nice job at Tennessee, but I'm not sure if we should take him if he quit on his team.

Forget Jalen Hurd - he'd have to sit out a year as a junior: https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/tennessee-football/report-status-former-ut-rb-jalen-hurd-limbo/

The guy to watch IMO is Kennedy Brooks - 10.7 ypcarry, that is an elite average with that many carries (2K+ yards). If he can catch at the next level, we have a smaller version of Mixon ready to go.

And if Mead can keep the momentum going from his bowl performance, we have a silky smooth new #1 WR to which we'll add Cedarian Lamb and his 20.7 ypcatch - also an elite average (how is this guy not a 5 star?). Just need Smallwood, Basquine and/or one of the other frosh to step up.

Finally, add me to the list of those who expect big things from Calcaterra - should be able to spell Andrews as a frosh and slide into that role going forward.

EDIT: And sounds like we'll have no Mixon troubles with Brooks:

On Monday, Brooks won the seventh annual Landry Award, which is given by KTVT/Ch. 11. Named for legendary Dallas Cowboys coach Tom Landry, the award recognizes the top high school football player in North Texas who demonstrates positive character and leadership attributes.

“I’m really thankful for my family, coaches, friends and teammates,” Brooks said Monday.

“He’s a special young man,” Mansfield coach Daniel Maberry added. “It’s been a real blessing to coach him for four years. Really proud of this young man and we’re going to miss him.”

IIRC Brooks went from a three star on Rivals to a four star during his senior year meaning he really stepped it up. I think the original knock on him was a lack of top end speed but if you're averaging 11 yards per carry at that level of competition with that many touches, you're doing something right.

Sutton is more suited for this offense especially on the edge, also Marquise Brown kid the Juco WR he has jets...is almost the mirror image of Westbrook in stature. His film shows promising high end speed

they are both already on campus too

if the rb's that we have do good during spring and heading into the fall, i doubt we take a transfer back, however if they dont look good then i could see us looking for a transfer back.

Sutton will surprise many with his running abilities. The fact that he has been rated at 3 stars, some may think he's not that good. The coaches went after him early for a reason, he has exceptional speed at 4.3 forty and squatting over 500 lbs. We'll see him soon in the spring game.
