Is it in the AD Master Plan to sell the naming rights to the RAC?

Sell to RAC Victor - just tell them they have to change their name to Radio of America Corp. as part of the deal

I think it being the "RAC" is great. Our football stadium never really had that aura. As much as I like the idea of the school getting the money, we need venues that instill emotions.
I liked the announcer's comment during the Wiskey game.
"playing here is like a 40 minute root canal"

Isn’t it technically still the LBAC? Not that anybody calls it that?
I have not heard that name uttered in years and TV casters HAVE to use the sponsor name is a stadium or arena has one...unless LBAC was just some touchy-feely overly sentimental gesture with no $$ associated with it?

True and the official website of Rutgers Athletics - scarletknights.com lists the facility as the RAC. I wonder when it changed?

It will ALWAYS be “THE RAC,” fellas, regardless of sponsorship.
Of course, just like we all call it Rutgers Stadium. But it’d still be nice to rake in a few dollars right? It seems like the time is right to seek sponsorship soon. The economy is on somewhat stable footing. WBB appears on the road back to national prominence, MBB doesn’t stink anymore, wrestling hosts well attended meets. It has to be worth 750k a year, no?

I could be mistaken, but I think that Rutgers kind of has not kept up the Louis Brown(who died in 1984) name on the building because Brown's son either died or does not care about Rutgers at all anymore. So, Rutgers has just gone back to calling it the Rutgers Athletic Center(not sure if it technically or legally should not be called the Louis Brown Center anymore).

If there are no Brown relatives alive or care about it that can contest the name on the building, or if a good Rutgers lawyer can make it that we can change the sponsorship name legally, we should go out and get a big sponsor again to get new sponsorship rights money.

Best of Luck,
Groz

Louis Brown was an alumnus who named Rutgers in his estate when he died. No idea how much he left to the school. They named the RAC after him a year or two after he died in the mid 80s.

There was a thread on here a few years ago about how the name was being dropped and reverting back to the RAC. Apparently the Brown family wasn't resistant to that. Maybe this was around the time of entering the B1G earlier this decade. I guess that allows Rutgers to consider corporate naming rights and something may be in the works.

Thanks for the info. Something should be named after Louis Brown. Maybe the semi-circ drive in front of the RAC or the green or something. Maybe erect a bust of his likeness in the atrium. But given the number of corporations in NJ, somebody’s gotta want to sponsor the arena.

They gave over $100MM to Notre Dame. They can send a couple of coins to Rutgers.
Ugh...F’n ND.

This doesn’t have to be a donation though. It’s a sponsorship/advertising opportunity...what about Gucci Arena? Or Puma Arena?

I think there’s still a plaque on the wall for Louis Brown on the concourse to the right of the doors that lead to the back of the stands on scorers table side. I think I read on here that it quietly reverted back in The Julie Hermann era probably to set the stage for a naming rights deal that never cane. During Pernetti’s reign he discussed seeking corporate naming rights for the RAC.

According to Gruninger oral history, Brown provided the money that enabled RU to expand the RAC capacity and add end zone seating when budget constraints had cut it down to only 6,000. But then Bloustein took half of the money and reallocated it to academics anyway.

what if Draft Kings or Fan Duel wanted to buy the rights. Would it be a moral dileimna to take the money?

When I type “Rutgers Athletic Center” in WAZE “Louis Brown Athletic Center” gets listed instead.

Louis Brown name was removed unceremoniously, that’s why some pages (like google maps, Wikipedia, etc) still have the name listed. However there is no mention of Louis Brown as the naming rights on any Rutgers official capacity, be it website, television, or the sign out front (which is a banner that says “RUTGERS Athletic Center” hung over the old sign). The announcer at the beginning of warmups says “Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome to the RUTGERS athletic center for today’s game, featuring the ..”

Louis Brown never asked Rutgers to name it after him. They simply did it because he left a large sum of money to the school when he died. So there is no legal responsibility to keep the name even if a relative is alive.
