I usually don't say nice things about most ESPN broadcasters........but John Saunders was a class act. I really enjoyed how he went about his business.

Yes he was.

They would be well served to have more like him and a lot less like Berman, Steven A Smith, Ray Lewis, etc. (I would put Cowherd and that other jackass (from Dallas, can't think of his name) on that list too if they hadn't already left.

Bob Ley is one of the few holdouts that lend any class or dignity to that network. It's a real shame. Mike Tirico is/was one of the best and he's gone now too.

I agree with both of you. Very bummed when I saw this earlier. Lot of chatter between my friends and I on this news.

What happened to Tirico?

did you mean Stuart Scott? He died not too long ago.

John Saunders was very good and I will miss his presence.

No, Tirico is just no longer with the network. It's very clear that I picked a poor way to word that. Didn't mean to imply that he was dead.

Sorry about that.

He'll be greatly missed up here in his hometown of Ajax Ontario (that he'd occasionally give a shout out to)....at first I thought, now how does a guy from these parts get a great job like that broadcasting college football....yep he knew his stuff and handled himself with class for sure...I guess that's why. Not a big ESPN fan but I'll miss Saunders take on the game big time...

Speaking only for myself, I believe it fairly apparent that traditional TV reporter-types in the Ley/Saunders/Tirico mold have little use in the "outrageousness sells" environment into which ESPN morphed when the Web became the source for everything/everywhere. I'm frankly amazed TWWL hung onto Saunders (and Ley) as long as they did.

No question ESPN now exists for a dramatically different consumer than the 59-year old suburbanite/becoming-empty-nester that I happen to be.
