I got to see them with my uncle in ‘82 at the Jackson coliseum. Both of them passed away this year. 2020 has been a rough year.

First and only 8 track was Van Halen I. My 1st concert, was the 1984 tour - Jackson Coliseum. Thinking Survivor was the opening band.

I’m extremely tired of having my heart ripped out by 2020. I just kept thinking I would see them live again someday. 17 everything.

Saw VH a few times. VH and Rush, were my favorites.
the most memorable was in Jackson. It was Eddies birthday. They brought out a huge ******* birthday cake on stage, and you can imagine what happened after..still remember EVH sliding around on the cake on the floor while completely ripping on whatever song. Surely one of you was there.

That was probably the most off the chain concert I’ve ever been to. People turning up 5ths of Jack, and of course there was a complete “fog” in the upper seats in the tin circus tent on High Street.

My parents obviously had no,idea what was going on down there, or they never would have let me go.

Seen Almost Famous? That was the vibe, seriously, very accurate.
Back when the biggest rock bands still came to a place like Jackson.

RIP EVH.

Was this 84? I heard a similar story many years ago and was trying to piece together. I was only 11 then, couldn't go, but heard eddie had a bday in Jackson on that tour.

Here's a sample of what you would have seen if you were worthy back in the 80's.

A legend. Not only an excellent lead player but his rhythm playing and songwriting are top 1-3 in rock music.

I went to the 1984 tour concert in Jackson, but don't remember the cake, but that doesn't mean his story is bs. I was in the "fog".

Saw them in Memphis on the Women and Children First and Fair Warning Tour before they became super stars with 1984 The Fair Warning performance and crowd were absolutely best concert were the best I ever saw ever.

I can still remember my best friend putting on their first album play when I came over to visit him and making him pick the needle up and put it back to play Eruption over and over again.

17 2020.

It's not typical, it's much too "pop" for some purists, and it's far from the first song I'll play when I wanna hear some VH, but it never fails to lift my spirits and that seems appropriate...

I was at the same show. Closest to the stage as I have ever been at any other event there. He played “Eruption” On the side of the stage right in front of us and almost blinded me with that mirrored guitar he had. First and only time I had seen em live.

When people are asked what is their favorite VH album, they often misspeak and say 1984. What they really meant to say was Fair Warning. RIP Eddie.

Was that 1995? I was there too. It was one of the last things I did before shipping off to boot camp.

**hot take alert**

I really liked their new album (A Different Kind of Truth) they released in 2012 when they reunited with DLR. She's The Woman is a pretty rocking tune.

I hated Van Hagar with a passion because it felt like they went pop and lost their identity a bit. I still think they were far better with Roth, but in my old age I've come to appreciate some of the stuff they did with Hagar, that was really good.

RIP, EVH. Hopefully he, Prince, and Neal Peart are jamming in heaven and if so, I bet it's a helluva show.

I actually liked them with Hagar. To me VH went pop when they came out with 1984 album. I absolutely detested “Jump” and didn’t care for most of the album. To this day when I hear the opening keyboard for Jump I change the station. VH’s best work were the first three or four albums. Wasn’t much on Diver Down either. Either way I loved the guitar work of EVH.

Saw the diver down show in Birmingham my Senior year in HS. Think it was Zebra
That opened? My first rock concert. Football coach found out we went and were drinking and made us run laps after practice.

Saw 1984 my freshman year at State in Bham.

I agree that they definitely went pop with Jump and I similarly never liked that song. But they redeemed themselves with Panama and Hot For Teacher among others. Jump notwithstanding, 1984 was a classic Van Halen record.

With Van Hagar they went overboard with the love songs too much for my liking.
