It's crazy how a couple of guys who masqueraded as the Zombies for an entire tour, went on to have such a lasting and great career once the jig was up.

RIP Dusty.

His cousin, Hank, is going to take the news hard.

I saw this about an hour ago. Dusty was a fine bass player and a member of that 3 man crew for 50 years. I’ve seen them perform live at least a couple dozen times over the years. Gonna be listening to some “Rio Grande Mud” and “Tres Hombres” and hoist a few in Dusty’s honor this evening. He will be missed.

Man. My first concert was ZZ Top. Saw them years later at the Wharf and they still kicked ***. That Little Ol Band from Texas is criminally underrated. True showmen.

Staying at the Peabody for a meeting circa 1988. Sitting at the bar about 4:30 or so and Dusty sat on the next bar stool to my right. I turned and said can I buy you a drink and he said sure...so we had a beer. He wasn't there long but was very nice and yes I did get his autograph. Years later we were in Lusco's in Greenwood one night and the whole band came in. Those guys liked the delta.

I saw them in Memphis on the Recycler tour and they were awesome. It was sometime back in January 1991. They put on one helluva show. The Black Crowes opened and they were so 17ed up it wasn't really funny.

I had tickets for Sunday. They cancelled tonight in South Carolina. No word on the rest of the tour.

Saw them on July 4, 1976 at the Liberty Bowl with the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Outlaws and Blue Oyster Cult. Was offered my first joint on this day in history.

Saw them in 1990 (I think) in the Cotton Bowl. Outstanding show and a packed house. They were playing the fur covered axes and had live animals onstage.

I was never a huge ZZT fan but I did see them at MSU. Cow Barn. Around 1975 or so.

So, that was you. Was in route to see that concert with a couple of buddies and our car broke down south of Memphis on 55 and we missed the concert. Fortunately a car load of chicks from MUW came a long and helped us out. We missed the Top but had a hell of a time sharing our joints with the chicks. Saw ZZ and Blue Oyster Cult later. Great times.

I saw them in Jackson on same tour. The Crowes had just gotten kicked off tour.
