Question for experts on punt return game

What has happened with either the scheme/blocking/formation/players for our Huskers or our opponents that has made us basically physically unable to return punts? It seems like every single time the ball is either downed inside the 10 or the PR fair catches with 4 defenders within 5 yards of him. Our average starting yardage has been brutal.

I’m starting to think Frost just wants the PR to fair catch it everytime. We definitely have the talent to be dangerous in the return game but this year we are horrid. No other way to put it.

Field position and penalties are killing us. Our returners are constantly catching the ball inside the 15, not much of a chance for a return in that situation and when we do get a chance to return one, we usually block someone in the back.

Agreed when opponent is kicking from mid field they kick ball higher and short 35 yarder no chance for return. As they say going, we have on a few occasions outkicked our punt coverage. Short field that doesn’t happen

Should move forward into the past and go with double return men IMO, cuts the field and the "off fielder" can help make the return call regarding coverage.

YES!

#1. We have faced a number of ball control offenses and have not forced many punts
#2. since we can't boot the ball through the end zone teams start their drives post 25
#3. Since we can't stop teams on 3rd down we normally force punts closer to mid-field or not at all...we have stopped teams quite often on 4th down..and that is weird.
#4. Teams rarely return punts from inside their 15 yard line
#5. We have faced experienced punters.

TO sometimes used twin safeties one up about 10-15 yards, to field the shorter punts. Was curious why it's not used anymore

They send back the bare minimum to block most times. Reminds me of when Pelini was afraid of a fake and didn’t block anyone.
