RU needs a coach that's going to do two primary things. 1) completely rebuild the culture. Install a hard working, winning attitude that out works opponents. 2) completely rebuild the NJ/NY recruiting relationships. So we need someone that knows the landscape and has established relationships.
That doesn't leave Hobbs with a ton of options. RU is not getting a home run hire in the sense that the rest of the conference will say WOW. When you breakdown the options Dan Hurley fits our needs very well. Are there better coaches? Definitely. Would they come to RU or would they be a good fit for RU? probably not. There are some other good options for sure. Would Archie Miller come here? Maybe, maybe not. Is Herb Sendek the right guy? I could see that working. Dan seems the best balance of experience and local ties.
What we can't have is a big miss. We can't take a flyer on some guy who has little to no experience. This job is going to take someone who knows what to do and what to demand happen now.
In the end, I have complete trust in Hobbs. But those killing Hurley right now are a bit out of touch with our real options.
