My uncle lives in State College and is a booster of PSU. He says their coach will be back for sure, will Miles have the same fate if he loses today to a team he beat by 20 3 weeks ago? Just curious... I'm not saying fire him or don't. Just curious.... GBR

I'm going to step waaaaay out on a limb here. If Miles loses today and looks bad doing it, there will be a lot of people calling for a coaching change.

That's some hard hitting analysis right there.

But there will also be people who are still convinced that Miles is their besty because he sends funny Tweets and tells stories about small-town South Dakota. I think he gets at least one more year even if the season ends today.

I say give Miles more time. We have been so awful for so long, what does one or two more years matter? The roster really does have some talent. I would like to see what Miles can do with it next year. Who knows? We might be pleasantly surprised and Nebraska puts together a good season.

The only real question I have is this: do the players believe in Miles? If they love him and are still committed to his approach, then we have a chance to be good. But if there is internal dissension on the team then things will remain bad. Maybe someone on here with knowledge of the program can answer that question.

I think (and hope) Miles is fine for another year. Then this super-talented roster can shine.
Or bring in a coach that can win with them. I don't think many, if any, of our current guys will leave if Miles is fired, so why not bring in a new guy and let him inherit some talent and hopefully have a little success right off the bat.

No idea what to expect in this one...both rosters are pretty similar talent wise IMO. Both teams limping to the finish line. One coach just found out he will be around next year, the other is still a question mark.

It would be encouraging to see NU go on a little run like they did last year and win a couple of games. However, the way they finished the season indicated maybe these guys have already checked out - so I wouldn't be surprised to see another ugly loss.

Honestly I don't even see the point of letting these bottom 4 teams play in the tournament. 5 wins in 5 days to advance? Has it ever happened? 4 in 4 days is extremely rare - don't know if 5 in 5 is reasonable.

If all 14 are going to play, maybe they ought to start early and build in a day off.

^^Full disclosure I am one of those Jayskers, so I have seen a winning program in Omaha for a number of years, but it wasn't always that way. Days "BC", Before Century Link the Jays played in front of a few thousand at the old Civic with Dana swinging away in the old MVC. Basketball is a deal where one guy can make a huge difference (Rodney Buford, Douggie, Korver, Justin Patton) Conversely, one or a handful of talented guys can drag a team down like a P. Allen Stinnet or some of the transfers that Miles had his first few years.
I think that Miles deserves time to see if some good new chemistry can evolve next year. If he fails to develop this team with his blueprint of mixing good high school recruits with talented transfers fails, then I think that fans need to consider if he can execute his blueprint? I've always wondered why his teams are so inconsistent on the offense end.
Like Penny, I would say that Tim could use a bit more time, but the exodus of players and coaches has been concerning as has the Tai Webster saga this year, chemistry seems to be at a low point but I feel like I've seen this before from Tim's teams.

I am in Miles camp not because of tweets or folksy stories. I think it is great that he is a good face on the program but more importantly he's brought in Big Ten talent and I want him to see these guys at least through their junior season to see our potential.

This is odd to me. At the beginning of the year we heard about how close the whole team is..... strange

This is where I disagree and why I think he should get another year; let's see if he can develop the young talent. I think his players are pretty loyal to him, and if he's fired there will be a number of transfers - we'll be right back to square one.

While I respect your opinion, Miles looks like a coach that has completely lost his team to me.

Some may leave if he stays. Won't know until semester

I don't necessarily think they aren't close, just a fragile mentality that spiraled. I get the young excuses in basketball are different, but Nebraska is one of the 4 youngest power conference schools(averaging I believe 19.9 years old.) only name schools younger are Oklahoma, Duke, Kentucky, and Tennessee.

Now that we are off of self imposed scholarship cuts and filling our roster, and also have a competent young big man, I want him to have one more year. If next year isn't a substantially more consistently well played game all year, I'd definitely make the change without question.

This roster, plus experience, plus the 2 transfers and a young under the radar talent is 19-12 or bust to me next season.

There is always something is seems - coaching, talent, working together, etc. Seems one thing is addressed and we still don't see the results everyone wants. We get talent, at least on paper, and we are no better record wise in a down year for the league. It is so hard to judge talent because of how it is displayed in games. Sometimes I watch this team and I wonder what in the world they are doing. There are major parts of the team that are just failing. We have to play some of the worst D in the conference if not the nation. Our guards couldn't stop anyone if their lives depended on it. They play side saddle D, poor footwork, poor angles and are slow to react to the ball. Watching teams rain down 3's on us is depressing. The O has its streaks where they get decent shots inside for a change but ball movement is not a strength. Tai can drive to his right all day long and into the lane and hopefully find someone to dish off to but too often the ball is thrown away. Early in the year he would get his shots in the lane, now he seems get to pinned on the baseline.

I just wish we could see some improvement in the basics of basketball but we don't. Eventually you have to say we have the talent (hard to gauge) but don't have the coaching - head or assistant, not sure either way. Something is amiss with this program right now.

For those who want SE to find a new coach before Miles is fired are dreaming. I can't imagine what things would be like when that word gets out that Nebraska is looking for a coach and still have Miles. There is no doubt Miles is on the super hot seat but he may be saved if he wins a couple in the tourney. The big question is what will happen next year and the year after with a Miles coached team?

Great takes, and no disagreement here. It's just a different excuse every season.

Your final paragraph is why I would have blown Miles out on Monday morning. Get a week's head start on the other teams looking, and the majority of fans would not have second-guessed the decision. If he miraculously make a deep B1G run and SE fires him anyway, he looks like an idiot (well, relatively speaking o_O). Miles either needed fired or retained/extended already, and nothing that happens in the tournament should change that conclusion.

Okay, so it seem like it could be a 50/50 split on keep Coach M or let him go. If he is retain, I think it is pretty safe to say that he doesn't get a contract extension. I will admit I am not that well versed on how BB recruiting goes, but does it make a difference in recruiting for a coach to only have 2 years left on a contract? It seems like you hear that is a big issue in FB recruiting.

I would assume that only having 1 senior on the team will make recruiting a little easier, but in BB it seems like kids are pretty quick to jump ship, so another 1 or 2 could open up.

Yes it matters. He will essentially be on a 3 yr deal if he isn't extended.

Unless there is fallout, recruiting is done for next year. With that said, I would have to believe Fuller is not going to be back. That will leave one open for a spring signee.

Could have been worse tied it up at 30 but PennSt went on a 8-0 run

Down 38-33 at the half..

Hoosker DU I still want Nebraska to win, it's up to SE to do his job after the fact.

4-8 50% from three 8-26 31% from two. Perhaps a few more 3 pointers in the second half? Or quit trying to take it at Mr. Watkins -- 5 blocks in one half.

Even with a hand in their face seems like every team has no problem makeing 3 pointers.

Realize sometimes we don't get right on them but even when they do teams hit 3's with no problem.

This game has gone from ugly to hideous.

If either team can string together two good possessions in a row, look out!
