Former Jackson State coach Deion Sanders no longer leads an HBCU program. But he’s still advocated for players historically Black institutions.

Sanders, now the head coach at Colorado, tweeted on Saturday that he’s “ashamed” of the 31 teams that did not select a single HBCU player during the draft. Only the Patriots used a draft pick on a player from an HBCU school, taking former Jackson State cornerback Isaiah Bolden at No. 245.

I for one can't believe nobody from an all-white school was selected!! Slow 40 times? ;)

Meh

Nothing wrong with being an advocate for opportunities.

There is worst to criticize him over.

WHO cares. Best players right? Who's gonna waste $$ to pick a player just because he went to a particular school?

Some people have to always make it about race. I don't care if you're black, white, Asian or eskimo. It should always be the best and most talented for the job. This is why our country is failing.

Is the NFL supposed to be a charity?
According to it's by-laws, it is. (501c3 non-profit) They take up all the woke and racial matters (BLM) too, so give it time and each team will be required to take one HBCU player and a Trans from a special draft prior to the primary draft day. You saw it here first!!!

He’s run off more than 80% of his players since being hired in December. Though Sanders made it clear from the start they weren’t “his” players.

They were the flotsam from an 1-11 season. Unwanted baggage left from a program he was hired to resurrect.
Twenty-three players entered the portal after the spring game, pushing the total to more than 50 since Coach Prime blew onto campus. No other school has had more than 30 players voluntarily or involuntarily move out.

By the time Sanders is done, at least 70 of Colorado’s 85 scholarship players will be newcomers. If he’s lucky, Ralphie the Buffalo will still have a job this fall.
We can’t blame this new reality on Sanders. He didn’t create this cutthroat world. But it is fair to question how he’s wielding the knife.

Deion has become Grim Reaper as he pares Colorado roster

Most coaches show a little tact and sensitivity when they send kids out the revolving door. Sanders relishes his role as Grim Reaper.

Cut players don't appreciate Coach Prime

“I’m not sure he knew the names of half the kids he got rid of,” offensive tackle Travis Gray told The Athletic. “He was worried about who he brought in. If you were on the 1-11 team, it seemed he didn’t really care about us at all.”

Another player who didn’t want to be identified said, “Wherever the camera’s at, that’s where Deion is.”

Harsh as that job can be, that’s what coaches are hired to do nowadays. It would just be nice if Coach Prime wasn't such a jerk about it.

This is the kind of thing that makes me think certain people are paid actors to stoke this racial ********. It’s either that or Deion has little ability in evaluating talent and thinks there are NFL players all over the HBCUs. I don’t recall him purging the roster like this at Jackson State when he started there.

If he loved HBCU players so much, he would have the ScUm roster stacked with them.

Perhaps no other person was in a better position to help HBCU's than Deion. He could have stayed and used his resources to increase the notoriety of HBCU's and recruit high quality players and new coaches. He chose not to.

Maybe Prime thinks his players are better than they are. I have a feeling he’s underestimating his competition too.
