We need a Dak statue no doubt but what pose should he be in?

1 - LSU stiff arm

2 - Touchdown finger to the sky

3 - The Dak flex

1. Way too early for a statue right now.

2. ANYTHING other than him pointing to the sky is an insult, in my opinion.

No we do not!
Not yet anyway.
Maybe name a street by the stadium - Prescott Way - if he stays in the NFL another 4-5 years.

I agree 1 is iconic and it would sting every Coonass that came to campus, but it’s a football play. Pointing to the sky encompasses his mom, and how the university embraced him after that.

Name on ring of honor, absolutely. A statue, not at this point. A statue in today's landscape should be reserved for championship or related achievements. If in 20 years we can clearly identify 2014 as the foundation for an MSU perennial championship-contending brand and Dak has completed a Hall of Fame NFL career, a statue may be in order. Anything less would be like hanging banners for national championships you awarded yourself.

He should have one. And it has nothing to do with playing in the NFL. Hell, Tebow has one (as he should) and he sucked in the NFL.

If there is a statue, it should be Option 2.

That said, I'd rather Jackie Parker and D. D. Lewis be honored before him in some way because they're in the College Football HOF.

When does it become the appropriate time for a statue?

After his first multi-million dollar commitment to the school.*

I think at this point it's just a question of where the eventual statue ends up. No hurry to do anything. If he has an incredible NFL career, and we don't have somebody just dwarf his production and he stays the face of the program, we can put him somewhere between say the junction and the east entrance (after we've done whatever we're going to do with the M-Club). If we have incredible success and maybe 2014 is just seen as laying the foundation, maybe he gets something in the main athletic building or somewhere.

At the unveiling they should have the guy that kicked his shin commemorate it.

We need a Jack Cristil statue that students put a cig in its hand after big wins and smoke billows out of his mouth.

D.D. Lewis played on some of our worst teams ever. But he was the best defender in the conference. Didn't he make like 60 tackles in one game?

If they ever do a statue please don't go cheap and make it a great statue. Do not get the guy who did Thunder and Lightning. As was said to me by one of my old teammates, "it looks like Rafael just hit a foul ball into the dugout". I had to agree with him.

Tebow has one because he won a Heisman. It's right next to the statues of Steve Spurrier and Danny Wuerffel. If he hadn't won the Heisman, it's likely that he wouldn't have a statue.

From my perspective (and probably mine alone). If there are going to be statues on campus of men who had a profound and lasting impact on MSU football the first one I would sign off on would be one funded by the BC of Bob Tyler outside of their office. Unless you were there to experience the futility and hopelessness of the program before he got there (and started the BC) VS the hope and confidence that we could be competitive we've always had since he showed us what we "could be" it's just hard to realize the impact he had. Just my 2 cents.....

When the person being depicted is dead and can no longer do anything stupid to ruin their reputation.

I see statues removed almost daily, of people that have been dead over a century. What the hell that got to do with anything?

And what about his "speech" plaque? Dak is simply the best we've ever had. Best representative of the school too. Put up the damn statue. Same for Jack Cristil.

#2 For Sure.

But wait until we are confident the student body is made up of a generation we are confident won't label a biracial man as a racist and tear the statue down.

If it turns out Dak is waging war against the United States in order to continue owning other humans, I have faith future generations will deal with that as well.

Well, considering the whole damn world was doing so, still doesn't change the premise of the quoted poster. Being dead doesn't mean **** can't get you. Just means you can't defend yourself.

I agree that it's probably too early for a statue but (as usual) I seem to be in the minority about NOT wanting No. 2. I know he does it in public but that seems like a personal thing for him and I'd feel weird if the university tried to co-opt it.

Should have specified national championships.

Ah I see. Well, I guess I’ll mark you down as being against a statue of an MSU football player being built for as long as Earth is spinning on its axis.
