Pre-game Traditions questions

Good day, all. My wife and I were talking about plans to make it to some Iowa football games this year, and are curious about some of the key pre-game traditions there. We know about the Hawkeye Wave during the game, which is special for us, having lost our youngest daughter to childhood cancer in 2019. However, what are some of the things that take place prior to the game? In particular, is there a team walk from the hotel or some other site to the stadium?

Are there any postgame traditions or popular spots to congregate after the game?

Thank you.

A couple of the easy ones are the team arrives by buses to the outside of the locker room area at kinnick stadium almost exactly 2 hours prior to kickoff. They walk from the buses down the sidewalk and into the locker rooms in kinnick. It's always a great time to see the players up close and personal. Another thing is Back in Black being played when the Hawkeyes come out on the field to start the game. It revs the crown up and has been a long time tradition. Frankly I think the song goes on way too long and it loses some of its juice after a couple minutes, but they still do it. Herky usually makes the scene about that time jumps off a platform runs around the field for a while waving a Hawks flag and plants the Hawkeye flag at midfield. KF usually sticks in his first stick of gum about this time, one of about a dozen throughout the game.

Coming to watch LJ run wild behind a Hawkeye OL, huh?

Here’s to a highly successful and injury free 1st year in the Black and Gold!

First, I can't imagine the pain of losing a child to cancer. You have my deepest empathy. And that's why, no matter how hard I try, I can't keep from tearing up every time they introduce the kid captain at midfield during the pregame ceremonies. Obviously, you will want to see that. I don't know the exact timing, but if you're in your seats by 30 minutes before kickoff, you'll be set.

And I strongly recommend the drum line too. It's pretty exciting to witness up close, and it really gets the adrenaline flowing. The kids in the drum line are fantastic.

The Kinnick experience is pretty cool. I hope you enjoy every minute of your time this fall.

I assume they will continue to do it, but they now offer for a fee pregame tours of Kinnick, including locker room and the field. They will take you inside the locker room with all the equipment staged and ready to go for the game. You will know who isn't dressing that day as they don't hang their jersey in their spot. We did it before the U Mass game last season when it was like 95 degrees out so didn't enjoy being on the field quite as much. It is a pay to do type deal through AD.

Our family likes to do the team pre game shot. There is a home about a block north of Stella’s that does a fund raising shot pregame. They have a shot for both teams, and you give a good will donation. I believe the money goes to the hospital, but I may be wrong. Many people participate.
I hope this makes sense. If anyone one has better info, please add.
