And this is what I’m talking about...posts like this. Our Huskers are about to settle the score on a couple division rivals that had our numbers the past several years and we will get to the BIG 10 champ game for a rematch vs Michigan. GBR :)

Coach T says J.Green coming along, hopes he gets shape Saturday.

Carlos Davis says there is a physical difference when Jurgens is at center.

Cam Jurgens has been said to be one of the strongest guys on the team. Sure he’s 280-290??? But he’s very strong. Cam Jurgens will be great. I remember watching the Cowboys in the late 90s early 2000’s. Their centers where constantly in the 275-285 range and they always held their own in he NFL. One was a constant Pro bowler. And James Ferentz that plays for the Broncos now is 6’2 285...so you don’t have to be 300 plus to be a center.

Cam's combination of size, strength and athleticism is extremely rare. He doesn't move like a big guy. I hope we all give him time to get some experience, but I'm really excited to see him on the field.

Agree ... aside from high profile injuries not winning the west would be a disappointment and an underachievement by this staff

God, I hope so. I live in Michigan (daughter attends UM) and went to the game last year which was hard to watch. Apparently when SF coached UCF, they played Michigan and lost but SF commented that they outhit Michigan. After that game, several of their players were yappin about that comment. Would love to see the Big Red beat the dog sh*t of them in the title game.

Well, I'm not sure if even HCSF will have what he wants in year two. Especially our defense. Oh, I'm sure we'll be better than last year.....but maybe we'll need another year to step up high.

Haha.....I hope I'm dead wrong!!

Well considering our biggest issue last year was not having a true NT playing and this season we have 2 true NTs in Darren and Damian Daniels... and some have even said Darren Daniels is an NFL caliber NT, we should (WILL) be better up front. I think some of you guys will be pleasantly surprised on the progress and how much a true NT helps a defense in the 3-4 system.

Stepnoski had a PhD in leverage.

That’s for sure...dude knew how to get it done. The way Scott Frost talks about Cam Jurgens...you’d have to assume he knows how to use it as well. Frost has seen, coached and been around elite talent players at Oregon and teams they have gone up against head to head. So when he talks about Jurgens being a game changer at center...I tend listen and believe him.

I think we probably feel pretty good about our starting groups on both side, but there is a serious lack of depth at some positions like: ILB, OLB, Safety and OL.

Frost also played a season with Aaron Graham as his Center.

Agreed, but Ill also say not winning the west would be acceptable if we win 9-10 games and the winner somehow wins 10-11 and is in the top 10 or something (highly unlikely I admit...9 win winner and it not being us would be disappointing).

And a follow up question specifically for you jib: if we do win the west, will you be excited? Happy? Will you credit the staff?

It is for a program who hasn’t won 10 games in ions

the defending big ten west champion won a total of 8 games last year with home losses to Akron and Duke and needed a miracle 99 yard TD drive to win a home game against a 4-8 team

Sweet.

This is a new year. With new challenges. And winning the West seems to be a pretty tall hurdle for Nebraska. We’ve been dog **** for quite a while.

The last time Nebraska went at least six seasons between 10-win campaigns before their current six year stretch was from 1957-1962.

And last year we had serious depth problems at CB and QB and RB and then those groups became the strong points and the oline could barely find a center who could snap the ball...things aren't going to pan out like we expect....we have plenty of bodies at all of the positions you listed...plus you have to assume the LB positions will hybrid with the nickel and safety positions as well. So safety is fine because our top 4 of 5 corners will and can play safety and LB is fine because we will be in nickel a ton...effectively you can consider us a 3-3-5 in many situations with the ability to play 4 downlineman, we have 6 lbs to play 4 positions, sometimes only 3.

NU has enough depth to suffer an experience injury at safety or corner, as Cam can play both psns. OLB is 2 deep, but ILB is 1.5. Dline is stuffed, WR, TE are good. There are some answers at Oline. Losing Mills would hurt, losing AMart would hurt much more.
