At least we don’t have to worry about the Braden Smith rumors this year
Shaudy, I know they will bring Pope back for another year but I don’t understand why because he can’t recruit and he has no ability to put together a roster and he’s not a good coach. What’s your take on it?

If that was our starting 5, maybe 8 and 25, though we would have to gel early and get every one of the cupcakes in the W column

As of today our 26-27 starting lineup is:

Braydon Hawthorne

I'm not interested in holding my breath hoping it will be much better than that by the end of April.

I’m with ya but it does seem like college basketball coaches get a longer leash unless the team just flat out sucks . I think they may give him the injury excuse also which as frustrating as it is it’s a legit excuse for some of the failure . Also the amount of money .

i would be shocked if he isn’t back next season .

That roster will have us once again playing in the 9 vs. 16 game in the SEC Tournament.... this time as the 16 seed.

The saddest part is I don't know if we'll attract much better in the portal. As we've seen for two cycles now, the top guys, even in the portal, still want to play for winners and receive competent coaching and development, and they haven't been coming here. We're a premier destination for 6th men looking for an expanded role and a pay increase.

Pope also won't have nearly as much NIL available to him next season after mismanaging it this season. The football-first fans want their turn with the money and I can't really blame them after watching this. It shouldn't take 22 million to put together a 7 seed that needs a miracle heave to win one game, against a mid-major that finished 3rd in their conference I might add, in the NCAA Tournament at Kentucky. What I think we see is us resorting to a moneyball approach to fill out the roster.

Hard for me to believe we're a tournament team with this core returning plus a couple of mid-major all-stars added to the mix. If we do, it certainly won't be as a true contender. Yeah, we can pay guys to come here now and make up for some (but not enough) of the deficiencies in Pope's sales pitch and overall personality. The problem is so can everyone else, and more SEC teams than ever are investing in men's basketball, not just when it comes to NIL for recruits but also with serious, A+ coaching and staffing hires, and millions invested into facilities, strength and conditioning programs, etc. I'm not seeing any real talk from Pope about lessons learned and trying a different approach. If anything, he is doubling down. Bad move, IMO. If you fail to do the things necessary to win the off-season, you will fail to do the things necessary to win the actual season.

Your PG. SG and SF are all hitting the portal. And the thing that’s gonna burn UK fans up is Jasper will be good with coach and a system.
