Position Change for Teddy Prochazka

I think Teddy should have been moved from OT a long time ago. He is a great athlete at that position but his height makes him taller than every active NFL player. The tallest OTs are 6'8 and most are under 6'6. The injuries are probably partly related to the need to lower himself to get leverage on blocks.
I think it would be worthwhile for the coaches to at least try giving him some practice time at DT and TE. In both spots he might be an asset. Especially with blocking kicks. We gave up two critical 50+ yard field goals in that game and a 6'10 player that can jump would be pretty damn useful there.

I suspect Prochazka is the new Matt Farniok. He's a turnstyle who cannot block anyone, so you wonder why on Earth he's still starting.

Until they put in the next guy, then you have your answer.

Like it or not, his body type is best suited to play offensive tackle. The problem is he just is not very good. It is therefore a sad commentary at our depth at that position that there is nobody behind him that the coaches think is better. Combined with our issues at left tackle we are in a real bind. We have a pocket passer QB as the centerpiece of our entire offensive strategy and he needs protection in order to do what he does best. Here is hoping that Pritchett gets out of the doghouse and improves.

I agree on the depth and development.but teddy was dam good as a true freshman Injuries hav ruined his career and honestly should have just hung it up . He played in 5 games and started 2 as a true freshman. His second start was against Adrian Hutchison and Michigan. He was holding how own against AH before he got injured that ended that year and started his cycle of injuries. I think AH even said after the game hopefully that kid is not hurt to badly he is going to be a stud . Pretty high praise from the best defensive player in the country that year.

Make him a blocking TE and throw it up to him at the goal line/short yardage plays.

Corcoran has been playing some tight end. I'd like him expand on that role. Pritchett started at right tackle at Alabama. I wonder why he's been playing exclusively at left tackle.

As far as defensive line is concerned, I wouldn't mind seeing Pritchett play some snaps over there. Put him over a guard and ask him to tie up as many people as possible without getting moved out of the hole. Just ten snaps a game at nose tackle. If it's a pass play, tell him to get his hands up.

Who do you want in at RT—Corcoran? I’ve seen that nightmare before and no thanks.

Pritchett? Everyone says his last year at Bama sucked because he’s a natural LT. He sucks there, so imagine him back at RT.

I 100% agree that Teddy has liabilities at RT. But I just don’t see many alternatives. (Plus the fact that, despite his size and injuries, he’s come back to earn a starting spot is pretty incredible.)

we somehow don't have anybody else

Corcoran is still playing, for Christ's sake

all these "high level recruits" Uncle Don has brought in appear unsurprisingly nowhere close to ready to play even for a putrid line like ours.
Some of those freshmen recruits are on the first team extra point and field goal units. Patience weedhopper. Teddy is better than most give home credit for.

while we’re at it maybe Dylan should be given a try at linebacker. Corcoran has gotten fatter and slower.

If that were true, then Teddy should be as good as he was last week for the rest of his NU career, then play 3-5 years in the NFL.

???

Farniok's NFL career lasted 19 games. Played in the NFL, which is certainly more than most college players can say. But he mildly inconvenienced NFL defensive linemen just like when he was at NU.

Jesus you think this is fkn HS where you can just move people around to different positions on both sides of the ball . This is major P4 football. I swear we have some of the dumbest fans in America .

I agree on Corcoran. No idea what Pritchett will end up looking like but right now its not good. I agree with you on Teddys come back what he's done is actually pretty impressive after the injuries he's had. That being said they have to find someone better. I dont see him being in the 3 deep on any team in the top 2 tiers of the big ten. Gunner looked pretty rough to. 1 thing I like about Rhule is if he sees a problem he tries to fix it asap. Do we have the players to fix OT rn? I would guess probably not. And if not why is that? Donny is in his 4th year. Wtf is going on here? I hope they get it figured out very soon.

Yeah. Next thing you know Ty Robinson will be playing some snaps at fullback or Turner Corcoran will play some tight end. Geez, try to keep up Boomer.

It’s pretty telling to me that in year 4 uncle Donnie doesn’t have any of his high school recruits starting. Has he ever had a singe kid he recruited out of HS start? Gunnar committed before Donnie was hired

We weren't prepared for the physicality at all.

Dylan had to use his legs for us to win this game. And he just sat back there taking unnecessary sacks

Having said that. We should have put up 33 points against that defense and we couldn't block.

Have you forgotten who our head coach was, who our OC was and what our string of losing seasons was when he was trying early on to recruit kids to NU? That was a virtually impossible task. By ALL accounts our O line recruiting has won lots of battles for highly regarded prospects these past two years. Expecting redshirt freshmen and true freshmen to come in and supplant upperclassmen starters isn’t realistic.

Especially when you don't have the right person to developing them. Sure, they might be buddy buddies with said coach, but that's not realistic to get the results you need for big time college football.

There’s always an excuse isn’t there. Always. Wouldn’t it be nice if you didn’t have to make an excuse all the time?

And Donnie is in year 4. Not one not two. There are kids on the team who will graduate college this year that came in with Donnie

oh I know, I know. Let’s blame someone else for the failure. Let’s blame bill callahan or Mike Riley

I find it ironic that you say “have a I forgotten who the head coach was”. You know who hasn’t? 4 out of 5 of our starters because they were recruited by him. And the current staff hasn’t found a single guy they’ve recruited that’s better? LOL

Do I expect freshman to come in to play? No

Do I expect 3rd year sophomores? Sure.

Hell even RFr when you lack talent so bad could be reasonable

but keep blaming crap on everything but the man actually doing the job. Is Bill Jennings off the table at this point? I just gotta know who we still blame for everything so that I don’t make the mistake again of blaming the current person employeed. Hell Donnie’s probably fully vested in his 457 & 403b at this point. Come on

I think early he was able to overcome his height. But multiple injuries have left him left mobile.
