The transfer portal opens April 1st officially this year. Figured I’d start a thread to keep track of all the different guys that hit the portal and some of our possible targets and who may be leaving RU
Rutgers obvious needs are 133 and 285. 285 needs to be priority 1 but 133 is a must , i dont see Gibson being anything more then a NQ level guy at best in his career, hopefully we can keep him around to be a swish army knife type of guy for us like most good programs have bc atleast he brings it every match. we need a 141 or 149 .I don’t share the same faith that some of you have with Nini/Mangro/Perkins. No way Goodale isn’t feeling some type of pressure either internal or external next season so I think he’s going to want as many sure things in the lineup as possible which mean another Joe heilman like pickup at some weights just to assure a NQ.
Plenty have speculated that Smith will hit the portal in the leave with Knox being the 125 moving forward. I’d hate to see him go but I also wouldnt waste a penny of resources trying to keep him if he wants to leave unless Knox told the coaches he only plans on 125 for a year . I can’t see any other major guys leaving , maybe some backups try their luck D3 or in the so con/Mac like Fongaro last offseason but I think all the other returning core guys will be back.
I have no idea who will hit the portal at 285 but I do know that Virginia tech fans are not happy with Jimmy Mullen and him and the rest of their upper weights havent had the success they ve been projected to. If he decided to leave id make him the #1 target. for all the grief the staff gets we have had some success with improving the upper weights the past few seasons. Mullen would have 2 years left would line up perfect for Zalota to redshirt then step into the lineup for 4 years.
at 133 Leonard dropped some possibles on another thread. If Mougalian used up his IVY league eligibility that would be a great get, he should have been in the R12 he was up big and got cradled in the R16. Also if Brayden Davis is planning on going 133 you throw the kitchen sink at him. At 133 with a chip on his shoulder he’s a sure fire AA , a real training partner for Knox and honestly his antics only stand out bc he’s at PSU surrounded by bible thumping goodie goods but other then the hardy trip the stuff he does isnt any different then stuff I’ve seen Joey O and SCW do half a dozen times this year alone. SCW has starting yelling at a guy that just maj/ teched him like 3 separate times in the back half of the season. I think Davis would fit in great here and we’ve had success with disgruntled PSU lightweights before.
