Latest target. North Alabama big bully guard. 6’5” played 3 years D2. Great rebounder and defender

35 GS, 29.2 MPG, 11.2 P, 8.6 R, 1.5 S, 1.1 B

Not much of a 3point shooter but was 35%

Others involved (you’d think we could win this one if we really want him)

Just watched the video.

Positive Signs:

1) 21% Assist rate - and some good passes, not forcing the issue - at least in clips.

2) 4.8% blocked shot rate - seems to show willingness and sme ability to play defense.

3) Looks to be a good rebounder, including a good offensive rebounder.

4) In the 93rd percentile in eFG% (63%), indicates very efficient offensively.

5) Very effective post-up player when defended by same size or smaller players.

6) Decent athleticism, and good in transition.

Negative Signs:

1) 71% of his FG attempts are at the rim!!! Very bad sign for being able to translate to Big 10 play at 6'4". This includes his post-up moves, mostly.

2) AWFUL FG% off dribble moves - meaning awful mid-range shot ... just 32%. This means that unless he can post-up vs smaller players, or beat his man off the dribble and get to the rim without Big 10 sized post help defense, he will NLT be able to create his own shot.

Not necessarily from the video - but also from his stats:

-- He looks like a decent 3-point shooter (35%+) - but on low volume of fewer than 1 3-point attempt per game.

-- Seems like a Pikiell "type" - decent size and strength, good athleticism, good effort defender - looks like a good help defender also - good rebounder.

-- Fortunately, or unfortunately, kind of reminds me stylistically of Jeremiah Williams.

-- Probably a solid pick-up, but not a likely candidate to score more than 8-10 ppg if I had to guess ... if that much.

The highlight video is almost all layups vs. smaller d2 players. Hard to believe this is what we are recruiting.

Recruiting and PAYING 500 thousand….

All teams are taking chances on low level D1 and even D2 kids, there’s always going to be some home run finds as basketball is a deep talented sport and kids develop as they turn 20, 21, 22…. But isn’t there a reason these kids were all low level players? And now we are promoting them to high major basketball and paying them all 6 figures…. It’s mind boggling stuff

He's a Pike type just like Derkack was a Pike type. If this is our two guard well we better hope the defense is back to enabling us to be in rock fights.

I'm waiting to hear name of a player that has Cam Spencer ability to make 3 pointers. Rutgers couldn't achieve a winning season with Bailey and Harper so the options for winning next season are limited to holding opponents to score less than 65 points.

Is that list even legit? Since there's no link we don't know who posted it.

NIL agents this go around having been embellishing lists in their posts to try and make their clients look more attractive. In some cases schools have never had a conversation with the player.

And according to AI Northern Alabama plays zone D…. Ugh. If they played straight up man I’d be a lot happier about targeting this kid. 8.6 rpg as a guard means the kid hustles. I’ll give him that for sure which isn’t nothing. He’s also more than Jordan, mainly because he isn’t and never was a volume scorer.

well if that is true and none of the other higher profile programs are after him that would make me feel even more apprehensive about it

Don't get me wrong, this is a kid we'd want to do well, he does work hard and has an old school game. Need guys to stretch the floor around him.

If he’s not too expensive, I’d be okay with this kid. I know we’re in panic mode right now, but I really just hope we don’t blow our entire allocation now. Hopefully we are keeping a list of all the graduate transfers and staying in contact with the ones we were interested in because you can bet there will be plenty to choose from entering the portal in the coming months. It’s one thing to take a pot of money to be on a good team, but at the practices, some will realize there’s only so much PT to go around.
