I like Sendek but I voted Dooley because I'm not sure if Sendek is realistically in the picture or not.
I'll throw out a couple other names from the midwest. I think Ben Jacobson has been brought up here in the past but I'm not sure if he's out of reach. Could be and he seems comfortable at NIU. He's been there awhile, just signed a 10yr 900K contract. Not sure if he has any inclination for a school like us. In my mind he seems like he's a little in a no man's land between certainly unreachable names like Miller/Mack and names we've discussed like Dooley, Pikiell, etc..So not sure how realistic he is for us.
Another name is Brad Underwood at Stephen F Austin. Extremely good 3yr record at SFA. Not sure what kind of team he inherited from his predecessor though so that would give me a little pause until I knew that. Is it a possible Pastner type issue at Memphis where he was on fire out of the gate after Calipari but the farther he gets out and as the players leave, his star starts to fade. But the record in his first 3 years at SFA is remarkable 88-13 overall and 53-1 in conference. 3 NCAA bids in his 3 years and once into the 2nd round. He was an assistant under Huggins and also Frank Martin after. Makes 400K currently.
I looked up a little and found he did inherit a team that won the conference regular season title the year before but that team lost 3 seniors, including player of the year and the top 2 scorers on the team, and 5 incoming players backed out. So he had no staff and 7 open scholarships. Not too bad recovering from that the way he did.
From the article:
Even though the Lumberjacks had lost three key seniors, including the player of the year, Underwood didn't consider SFA a rebuild. "I knew there was an environment for success," he says. This was before all five of the incoming players he was told to expect backed out, leaving Underwood with seven open scholarships and no coaching staff. "I put off hiring a staff for six weeks," he says. At the time, he was spending his time between hotel and a tiny apartment above a garage. "I felt I could go find and recruit the players that fit me, and I also felt I needed to build relationships with the remaining players."
