The writer nailed it - money and potential “embarrassment“ will keep teams not the 5 conferences out of the playoff. In my opinion Power 5 is not about football prowess but rather control of the system. ND getting an equal vote to conference commissioner's is to ensure a tie breaker vote.

My thoughts exactly. Not only the ND thing, but teams like KU, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, etc. are part of that power 5. Hell, they're ranking teams in the P5 that haven't even played a down this year!
