Any of our posters affected by this fire on Pilot Mountain? Seen pictures of it overnight and kind of concerned about our friends in Surry Co.

It has burnt over 300 acres so far, they thought they would be able to contain it under 100 acres but that has failed due to the wind and dry conditions. They are hoping they can somehow contain it when it gets to the bottom so that houses are buildings are not lost. The flames are 3-5 ft in some places so it is a real issue at the moment how fast it is spreading.

I saw a bit ago per WXII that they're expecting around 900 acres to be burned. The good thing from what I heard is there are existing firelines from the previous fire that will hopefully keep it from jumping off the mountain.

Yeah hopefully. It's dry and windy up here too. I was up all night worrying about the pager going off haha.

Any word on the one in Watauga County? I saw about it yesterday but haven't heard much else.
Thunder, that one is in a very remote area right on the Wilkes/Watauga line, Last I had heard was it still wasn't contained, and crews were having a hard time getting in there to it. With as dry as it has been and 30 mph wind guts today I would say that one will burn a few hundred acres before they hopefully can get it contained. I worked for the BLM my freshman year of college, great summer job, fighting fires in the west, and these things are no joke in dry and windy conditions.
