No coincidence our best 3 players have highest ranking though. I think we’re playing so well now because Paul and cliff work so well together
Geo has to be included in any discussion of our top players
I think Geo is in the discussion of our top 4 players. This team does seem to fit now though and it took a while for that to happen but increasing cliffs involvement via Paul ultimately solved the teams biggest challenges which was getting to the rim and needing Paul to score points.
Wonder what rankings he's using... Ron ended up a 4 star and Paul a 3 in Rivals at least IIRC

Yep, and he earned it when I was killing him earlier IMO.
I call balls and strikes though, and he has done an absolutely tremendous job over the past couple weeks.
I think he definitely gets a little boost from the RAC magic, but that’s not to take away from the job he’s done recently.

And look at what Pike has done with this player--what a pick he made on that ref!
I mean everything he and the team were doing in the first half of the season was NOT this.
I’d say 90% of the stuff I was bitching about is no longer happening, so I’m happy.
It was never the wins and losses or shooting percentage for me.
It was always the lack of effort (especially for a veteran team), and the lack of an offensive game plan. Those issues are non existent now.
I get it Rut. I just think Pike deserved a longer leash based on his track record here. I was extremely frustrated to
Brad Underwood called Pike one of the very best coaches in the country in the post game.
Anyone who says Pike can't coach just shows how much of an amateur they are when it comes to evaluating coaches.

This thread is certainly a far cry from the parade of Fire Pike threads in the early season! Wonder why? 
Could anyone have predicted Michigan State writer tweeting this just a few years ago.
If you give Pike 3 days to prepare for you , he will game plan to put his team in a position to win about 98% of the time. He is an elite preparer and gobbles up film and imparts that knowledge to his players. That is one of the great signs of a great coach. The BIg 10 is the best scouted league in the country and coaches take away what you do best. Pike is elite on scouting teams and exploiting their weaknesses. So so happy he is our coach
Pike has a few shortcomings, as all people do. But player development is not one of them.
Every year we see guys develop noticeably. You just know a guy will be a considerable level above the next year. Esp underclassmen. Its encouraging.

Progress and success are not always linear. Looking at Pike's years at Stony Brook, he hit a rough patch in year 6 after going 22-10/13-3 in year 5, he went 15-17 and 8-8, and then he had 5 solid years leading to Rutgers hiring him.This thread is certainly a far cry from the parade of Fire Pike threads in the early season! Last year was a weird year because of lack of fans in the stands, and at the beginning of this year, I figured he may have been hitting his rough patch in the year 5-6 time frame. Maybe he will hit that same year a bit late (next year?), or maybe he will not.
Of course fans are going to react when things were going as badly as they were in the beginning of the season. Some overreacted, and some went off the end of the earth. We all react differently, but where some us drew the line was with those who called for Pikiell to be fired.
I'm enjoying the ride, considering the state of the program pre-Pikiell.
And he achieves this with only one top 100 player among the starters and rotation players. He is also the most respectful coach in the league and supporter of community activities. Just a great person who has brought us a lot of thrills and entertainment. Just think we have a chance to be regular season champs and who doesn’t believe we can’t win the B1G tournament and make a run in the big dance. We are fortunate to have this man as our head coach. We have seen the worst and now have the best.
Yes he is. I think he's found his roll and I think the team has developed around him. I think he's a better fit lately then ever before.
As someone on BTN said the other day. We are a complete team now. Everyone has their rolls and are playing them at a high level.
Years ago posters had Caleb transferring down a level after he played one game as a freshman. That was a good one.
