Just came across as a decent and good guy at the press conference . Obviously , who knows , but to have staff and former players from another school show up means something .
Now , usually in college baskebtall it's the slime guys that win like cal, Huggins , Calhoun (yes and he's from the Calhoun tree ).
So here's to hoping coach p is a bit more slimy or that nice guys really can win in college hoops .

My first ever post here. I am a Stony Brook fan who has followed the Seawolves closely for years. With Coach Pikiell moving over it's time to become a fan of a Power 5 conference team.

There is no doubt he really is a good guy. I don't think I ever saw him berate a player ever on sidelines of a game. I am sure he get's on his players, but will never do so publicly. Every time he is interviewed he says "thank you" at the end and you can tell he really means it. Again, after a bad loss, do not expect him to go negative. He will always point out the positives in a situation. His overly good guy, positive persona, is no act. It probably may even tick off the fan base at times. He simply will not react to any situation with any sense of panic or desperation. He is a player's coach first and foremost and will always have their backs.

Welcome aboard . Rutgers can use more fans . How is stony brook taking the departure of coach Pikiell ? Seems like you guys lost someone that was a class act at your school for years. .

It is telling of the man's character when he took a dismal ARP 880<< probation numbers. And WOW I just looked them up and the latest is 995.
SCREW his W/L record on the court, to me this is a real winner with his players and Rutgers. No wonder his staff and players showed up. They love the man because he loves his kids.

Taking it very well. The fan base knows how hard Coach worked and are really appreciative of his efforts. There is some uncertainty as the new AD seems to be wanting to make a splash with a national coach search and much of the fan base thinks that associate head coach, Jay Young, has earned the job. That's all on SBU at this point though. I don't think you could find one person who has hard feeling about Coach P moving to Rutgers. I'm guessing that if Young doesn't get a head job (he is a finalist for Central Ct and will be interviewed at Stony Brook) he will be on staff at Rutgers.

I don't have exact figures, but over the last 8 years I would guarantee that less than 5 players transferred out. Coach also was not adverse to having a JUCO on the team but it was never more than one on the roster at a time. The last one was actually a qualifier out of H.S. so he came and played for 3 years. Stony Brook is not a place that players go to the NBA, but every single one who played for Coach graduated.

I love the hire.

Pikell screams high integrity.

He's a grinder who has won on every level.

If there's one thing I'm annoyed at, it's the fan reaction. Pikell comes to a downtrodden Rutgers program and says that it's an incredible "dream job" and other incredible things. The rutgers fan base: "Crap. I guess he's OK. We cheaped out, blah blah blah."

This guy is a home run and I can't wait to cheer for him and support him. I'm going to email Hobbs about setting up a coach's fund for him. I'd gladly donate to it. He chose us and I believe will represent us well. Now we should have his back.

Just talked to the AD's office and I think we'll have one set up by end of day. (A Coach's Fund that Pikell can direct)
