i mean i really think of all the games to criticize pike this was not it

youre down your one true big and your best guard for the 2nd half and you lose by 7

hes had 9 other losses this year that were honestly more egregious than this one

Pike is responsible for both the roster and the game day coaching. This team was doomed before the first game based on roster construction, poor player evaluation, and failure to address our obvious interior needs. Our injuries have been nothing remarkable. It's just not a very good team.

we lost by 7 to the 8th ranked team in the country basically without dylan this is not the game to blame roster construction or game day coaching

Certainly deserves another year or so to right the ship.

As I’ve suggested many times - get back to how he built the program. Blue collar workers - under appreciated guys that wanna be here, that’s how pike built the program and when he’s had his most success

If that doesn’t work - that’s when we have this conversation

Williams commits some of the dumbest fouls is Pikes fault?
Yeah, it's a lot his fault. As a coach he should be able to correct it. You play defense with your feet - teach it, and he won't commit dumb fouls. He doesn't teach sh7t, which is why we need to FIND THE MONEY.

He’s getting paid $3.5 million dollars to coach a team with two lottery picks. This team is badly constructed and badly coached. We suck in all phases of the game.

When in your opinion does this become Pikes fault.

If you read my post above - I give my opinion.

Pike has had the most success with under recruited, blue collar guys. When that philosophy stops working for him - that’s when I’d consider it a coaching issue.

He certainly constructed this roster with transfers - and one and dones - and again, it’s not the roster that fits his style.

Get back to basics next year, and if that fails that’s when I’d say it’s a pikiell problem

That’s not college basketball anymore. You need to be able to construct a year-to-year roster and coach it. If he can’t do that…he should be fired.

His recurit and develop strategy is dead. If he can’t identify talent, allocate funds for it and coach it up he’s never going to have success going forward.

Not really - no 1 team in America Auburn.. only 3 transfers. 7 kids returned.

It’s not all about transfers and one and dones.

Best player doesn't play and ace goes 3-16. It's pike's fault. Lol
Carr gave Ace a very hard time today. His length, size, and athleticism really bothered Ace.

Why not run some action off ball with Ace to get him a more advantageous matchup?

Sure, you can say he struggled shooting percentage wise, but WHY did that happen? And what adjustments were made by this staff to put Ace in a position to succeed in the 2nd half?

It’s the players job to put the ball in the hoop, but it’s the coach’s job to put him in a position to do so.

auburn may be an exception…let’s use Rutgers as a base case.

Ace and Dylan- NBA
Acuff, Martini, Hayes, Williams- no eligibility.

Let’s then assume that the other 6 with eligibility choose to return and you have four freshman. If he can’t recruit two ridiculous scorers from the portal this years team will feel like 1976.

In short, if Pike can’t make the portal work he can’t be successful.

Pike is an old school coach trying to adapt to new school basketball. Some coaches couldn’t handle that - jay wright, Tony Bennett, Jim Laranaga…some coaches never changed.

Others - like pike - are trying to adapt but failed. So go back you your roots and see if the success comes back.

It can work if you have more NIL and a coach that maximizes talent. Pike has tried to build teams in the past that resemble Houston’s roster construction and play style (great defense, decent-to-good offense, great rebounding, etc.), but he’s just not as good of a coach as Kelvin Sampson.

It may be at hot take but the two tournament years for RU we would have easily been a single digit seed with a better coach in both of those years

Why can’t he?
Because he’s Steve Pikiell and he’s proven he’s incapable of roster management via the portal. He has like a 10% success rate.

Like you said, he’s an old school coach trying to adapt to a new game. In my view he’s incapable of doing that. My guess is that because this is the first real money he’s made in his career, he’s going to pull a C-Viv and hold us hostage till we pay him out.

Ok ..we agree.

The solution - to me - is not relying on the portal as much and going back to what made him successful. This works / he’s beaten #1 teams with this approach in the past.

You want to adapt and stay new school with a different coach.

Two different approaches..both could work. But with pikes contract - I don’t think it’s wise to fire him

The concept of blue collar play is done in basketball. HS college talent want cash and to go bombs away, or they will transfer to a school that either pays them more or lets them shoot more.

Won’t work in the new world. As soon as a player gets better, he bolts RU for greener $ pastures. Have to use to the portal.

In the meantime you’ve got a bottom feeding team of “developing” players.

Disagree. I think Bruce pearl is certainly a blue collar coach that has his team #1 in country. Very few transfers and mostly a home grown roster

Again.i just disagree. If you get players that want to be here..they won’t chase the money.
