On the telecast at the conclusion of yesterdays affair the commentators noted that Steve Pikiell has 17 wins at Rutgers against ranked opponents.
17!
That’s an amazing stat.
17!
That’s an amazing stat.
Its almost as if… he is a good coach who has had to deal with the best player in the country not playing due to injury or illness for a significant portion of the year
**ducks for cover**
Oh stopI don't want to make this a coach vs coach thread, so I'll broaden it to the program level...
How many top 25 victories in the last 10 years do we have in football? In lacrosse? In womens basketball? In baseball?
Nowhere NEAR 17. I'll tell ya that.
In one of those aforementioned sports, our win percentage vs top 25 is <12%. 4-31.
Awesome he can use that stat when he’s looking for a job next yearOn the telecast at the conclusion of yesterdays affair the commentators noted that Steve Pikiell has 17 wins at Rutgers against ranked opponents.

OK. whatever you say
they did not. we could add it upDid they say how many games it was out of?
OK. I'd buy that, except that football hasn't had a ranked win since the first obama administration. Somewhere in that 15+ years there should've been a WTF game that was converted to a W for the old scarlet knights.Come on, call it fairly. He’s not wrong. Basketball is far more fluid than football at the top, and far less asymmetric in terms of power - especially in the B1G and there are a lot more opportunities.
A more fair comparison is Pike against his predecessors. Pikes has done a great job so far, not a perfect one, and the job isn’t finished.

Don’t duck ir whether people want to admit it or not unfortunately for us injuries 1000% had a part in derailing both football and basketball seasons. Look at Richie’s comments on the Wednesday ask the staff around the defense and injuries now that the season is over. Others during the season hinted at the same thing. Furthermore next man up mentality doesn’t really apply when a top 3 NBA pick is who we are talking about and even with that said we did rise to occasion on the road at northwestern but you can’t expect it all the time. 4-1 with both Ace and Harper healthy in big ten there would easily be another 2 if not 3 more wins had he been himself the whole season. Its almost as if… he is a good coach who has had to deal with the best player in the country not playing due to injury or illness for a significant portion of the year

So call it fairly too, I guess?

I tried to use AI to answer that question, it did not give me a direct answer.they did not. we could add it up
two posts aboveI tried to use AI to answer that question, it did not give me a direct answer.
I am assuming it is a decent percent. This would then allow us to give some sort of comparison to other B10 bball coaches, or other teams at rutgers.
Even if AI gave you a direct answer, there's no guarantee it would have been the correct answer anyway.I tried to use AI to answer that question, it did not give me a direct answer.
Good stuff, thanks. So, if (when) he gets one more this year he’ll be averaging 2 Top 25 wins per year. I’m just guessing that for the previous 9 seasons before Pike, we probably averaged one per year (wild guess).Pike top 25. There, I did the work for all you lazy dudes

Yeah. 2022 was kind of a statistical outlier here...that was a very good performance (we won 4 straight top 25 games)Good stuff, thanks. So the fact that we haven’t beaten a top 25 team in football since this freshman class was three years old is just… irrelevant? Completely irrelevant?I think pike has been great here for what we needed at the time.
But you’re crazy to compare hoops to basketball . St Peter’s made the Elite 8
Or against peers - other Big Ten vo as coaches.
Also a true comparison would be winning %.
I would imagine CBB had a lot more opportunities against Top 25 teams than CFB would each year.
Maybe baseball would be similar to CBB? Not sure.
How many d3 losses do football, lax, and baseball have over the past 10 years? Because losing to teams with NET’s in the 300’s is like football losing to a d3 team. Cant compare the sportsI don't want to make this a coach vs coach thread, so I'll broaden it to the program level...

Oh ya. I’m a troll. Whatever ya say my mansDid I say that ?
I said each sport is different .
But since you want to make inaccurate analogies , credit to you for starting a thread on the men’s basketball board to disparage this school’s football, baseball and lacrosse programs. There’s some gangsta level trolling
I don’t have those numbers I’d have to pull em hahaHow many d3 losses do football, lax, and baseball have over the past 10 years? Because losing to teams with NET’s in the 300’s is like football losing to a d3 team. Cant compare the sports
Yes . What does the football team have to do with the basketball team beating Illinois last night ?So the fact that we haven’t beaten a top 25 team in football since this freshman class was three years old is just… irrelevant? Completely irrelevant?
My point originally was 17 ranked wins is impressive on its own. When compared to ALL other Rutgers programs (all of em!) it’s even more impressive.Yes . What does the football team have to do with the basketball team beating Illinois last night ?
