I’m optimistic as well. I can’t judge by the other teams because I can only read about them. But I was at our practice yesterday and what I saw was encouraging. Biggest takeaway was the depth and speed of this team. If each player gives 100% - a 100% of the time, you need depth. This team is deep with athleticism and talent.
Another observation was the coaching staff. At one point, I was observing Coach knight on one end of the floor coaching offense and on the other end Coach Pike was teaching defense. That was impressive.

So the real question is can Purdue advance to an NCAA regional quarterfinal?
Haven't we finished higher than the poll the last 5 years or so?
This doesn't have quite the same ring as "We were picked 12th" - but I love it for motivation. I expect us to outperform that 10th place position.
If Mag is healthy enough to be at the top of the press, I like our chances of being in the top 8.
The prediction is based on the loss of scoring from 3 starters .This seasons team has more speed and depth but has to show shooting proficiency against B1G Ten competition.
In the last 40 years we have not won more than 20 games in a season (won 20 twice). Our current streak of 4 winning seasons in a row is the longest season win streak. No question Pike has us going in the right direction and I think we'll be in the upper tier of B1G teams...6th or better.
BTW, did you know Frank Hill (223-160) coached Rutgers from 1915 to 1943 and coached Rutgers and Seton Hall at the same time for 14 of those years?

Still lots of unknowns but 10th sounds about right. I expect the size of our guards and potential lack of depth at the position to be our biggest issue.
I'm expecting us to be better than last year - maybe even noticeably so.

Sour grapes, maybe - but we were one bad missed call loss at Ohio State away from being tied for 5th. The margins were so thin last season.
Not surprising after losing a bunch of starters, but I think we all expect to finish better than 10th. Pike's teams have always played better as the underdog disrespected chip on your shoulder type anyway

I can't really tell either way because I've never seen most of this team play and I'd think guys like Hyatt and Simpson that I have seen will get better. But I have high hopes for Gavin Griffiths, jamichael Davis, Noah Fernandes and Antonio chol based on clips I've seen on YouTube and what those that observe practice are saying....

If Purdue is going to be the best team and this RU team is fast and shooting the lights out like we've been told; should be able to beat Edey and Purdue again...the big ten is begging for a north east team to play a fun style of basketball and take over the conference. Maybe RU surprises everyone a year earlier than expected..

Too many question marks to be rated any higher. I even saw one prediction having RU at 13th. Can we play B10 defense? Can we rebound? Have Hyatt and Simpson improved enough? When will Mag be full go? And so on.
I think it's about right. Depth was a problem last year. We scrambled to add pieces. Still excited to watch us but I don't have tourne expectations for this season.

By picking us 10th this year, prognosticators must think we’ll be just as good as last year, in conference.
We were 271st in shooting percentage overall, 292nd in 2pt% and 296th in 3pt% (in the Big 10, 12th overall, 14th in 2pt%, 12th in 3pt%),
We had 2 of the worst 3 point shooters in college basketball with their number of attempts
We have no where to go but up
Its very fair given what was lost and that RU finished 9th last year

No idea what to expect. Hoping for best. if Team uses it as motivation so be it.
The Rays are eliminated so work on this has begun (barely). Probably going to be one big long thing rather than split up into four sections. Aiming for the end of October-ish to have it ready.
Well there you go. We’ll only be playing a lineup of 4. That explains the ranking.
I think the rating is fair considering we lost, Caleb, Cam and Mulcahy and Mag for the last 11 games. We were a much better team until Mag got injured. I have seen two practices and we are much faster and more athletic than last year and we appear to be a much better shooting team as well. I believe we will be Top 7 in league and possibly higher. If Jeremiah Williams is allowed to play this season we could be even much better.

2019-2020 was really the breakout year as we all know and moved us up to the next level of the Big Ten.
We always seem to end up in a tie with multiple other teams right around the number.

Let's be honest everything is a guess at this point. Even if you have a very good read on each team and it is accurate you still never know how the 20-25 possessions will go that for most teams will determine the outcome of 6 or 7 games.
Rutgers has to earn respect before getting the respect they deserve.
