Our offense can stop reading their press clippings
. I really am shocked at how bad the offense was. I can't think of any other explanation than they thought they were good enough to cruise control this game. Coaches and players both were guilty IMHO. Thank God the defense felt like they had something to prove.

Frost sucked today. Martinez sucked today. Offensive line was brutal.

Hope to god we went ultra vanilla today because zero chance we beat Colorado next week with the same offense showing up.

Was odd. Martinez was rattled. I can’t believe they didn’t give him some easy drag routes just to get some throws out. Lack of screens was bad too. Very uncreative play calls. And Jurgens was the worst D-1 Center I’ve ever watched. Just a wreck. Hope he gets better. He set our offense back 10 years

Post game Frost was diplomatic, but still said Martinez had a bad game, and some of the mistakes were his.

Mr. Heisman did seem to be in a funk. Maybe his girlfriend broke up with him before the game. Or he has a broken rib. Something.

I was leery about Jurgen's magical promotion to starter. At least Frost was able to bench him when it was apparent that he's not even close to ready. Farniok looked much better in the very few snaps the offense played in the second half.

Where are all the posters that were saying Nebraska would cruise next week? It's not going to happen, if Nebraska wins, it will be by a razor thin score.

Some of the guys that made starts were head scratchers. And Domann and Taylor need to be on the field. The secondary looked deep. I’m not even mad at D Williams like everyone else. Go out there and hit!

Think back to last January....
1. We had one good wr
2. We had one good rb...he was suspended for the first half
3. We had no center, and an inexperienced line

So...fortunately he got a junior college RB in August...and apparently our WRs didn't step up...which is not surprising because if they were good, they would have been good last year. And we leaned pretty heavy on a true freshman WR to be our #2...

We lost 34 players in Frost's first 18 months...we will pay for that with a lack of depth for a while, and if you lose your #2 receiver and your #1 rb due to injury and suspension it hurts even more. Any person with a mammalian brain could comprehend we would have problems with offensive depth because our best producers last year graduated. Fortunately we have a pretty soft schedule, and could have things humming by mid-season. Amart is not comfortable with the guys running routes at all and is holding onto the ball forever. I think he is going through the "let me try to be an nfl guy" phase of sitting in the pocket instead of just reacting and making plays. Hopefully the over-cerebral nature of coach V is allowing him to just play.

It could be the staff wanted to run a base O and try out some things at certain places. Because the play calling was trash

Agreed - we play the team today at home and struggle and next week a real team on the road?!

Martinez looks slower than last year. Injury? He looked off all day, a lot of it was horrible line play and no open receivers.

There seemed to be a lack of energy today. If it wasn't for the defense and the punt return, could have ended up as a loss.

Was pleasantly surprised by the defense. I saw overall improvement and the turnovers were huge. I hope Pickering's injury isn't serious. We will need him, because it appears the margin for error is a lot slimmer than many of us believe.

I'm not sure what's more concerning right now: The lack of energy, The Oline or how poor Martinez was today.

I thought things would improve when they changed out the center, and it did momentarily, but it was like the qb was already rattled and then couldn't get out of the funk.

We will continue to have trouble winning games without a leader and competitor running the offense.

agree, high snaps threw off timing on many plays after 4 or 5, he should have been replaced

My mom asked this question at halftime: Do these guys know there is a football game today?
The most concerning to me was Martinez's noticeable ****** body language. He's a leader and captain of our team but there he was sulking and looking for all the world like he DGAF. Let's also not forget that our captain RT had the most penalties today too.

The fact that Frost actually thought Jurgens was the 2nd coming of Rimington is concerning. Maybe he's not 100% healthy, but he looked like one of the worst offensive linemen I've seen start a game at Nebraska.

Martinez had a bad game, no arguing otherwise. But he's not the one who's been blowharding about the Heisman - that's coming from TV talking heads and sportswriters, and it was none other than Tom Osborne who raised the idea that he will be the best QB ever to play at NU.

The offensive line is the Huskers' most glaring weakness, but Martinez needs to play a lot better than he did today if NU is going to compete for a division title. I doubt Martinez would say otherwise, but I guess some people get a big charge out of painting him as some kind of self-promoting prima donna.

I don't think hes a self promoting pre-madonna. I am discouraged by the complete lack of urgency and fire by the whole offense. I think that everyone vastly over estimated the offense coming into this game. By everyone I mean fans, coaches and players. They have a long way to go. We will see if the problem is correctable in very short order.

Jurgens has stiff competition, Dylan Utter and Mark Pelini were both more consistently bad and were upperclassmen. Cam is only a RS Freshman.

I really feel like they were holding things back. Like the first half was scripted, and then just didn’t get things going in the second half and didn’t see the field much. I think they’ll shake it off though

I don't think anyone has said he's a prima donna.

His body language was not good today for a captain. He may have physical abilities, but so far has not shown that he is a winner or a leader.

Did you watch a single game last year? FFS...take a breath. It was one game. You’re posting non-sense.

This year, our opponents have a year's worth of film on Martinez/our offense to study, and have had months to game plan for it. We don't have the unknown factor anymore. And we don't have Stanley Morgan.

Silly. They had the UCF film for last year. It’s the same system. The offense is predicated on putting defenders in a position to have to choose or decide what to cover and burn them based on it. It’s based on creating mismatches in space. It’s not based on the element of surprise or unknown. We went vanilla and tried to work the middle. Our center was off, Adrian had a bad day. We had guys open but you probably didn’t notice. It’s going to be fine.

Farniok's also a captain - how was his body language?

And who are the players who have spent too much time "reading their press clippings"? I read that about 1,000 times today, but maybe those posters were talking about Wyatt Mazour?

Martinez wasn't good today, no way around that, but captain or not it's the first game of his sophomore season. And if he's over-hyped, that's on the people who guzzle hype with a funnel and a hose. Every Husker QB gets over-hyped: take first-round NFL draft picks Tanner Lee and Sam Keller, for example, or the banner headline that read NU GETS MICKEY about 30 years ago.

On the positive side, we didn’t disclose our offensive juggernaut to CU for a split second.
I actually feel sorry for them. Nothing to study or prepare for before we roll into Boulder.
Scottie 2 Hottie will have them ready.

Matt Farniok reminds me of Nick Gates. Had a very poor game. He was being shoved around like a rag doll. All 320 pounds of him and his ten pounds of hair. He needs to man up and show some grit.

On his 15 yard penalty, he left his feet before the QB was out of bounds. And even when he hit him it was a glancing blow and on his arm. If it's not a QB I wonder if they call that?

Yep, and I think he jarred the ball out too
