With an interesting and action-packed fall behind us, a new college season is just around the corner. The college game continues to prove it is alive and well as the Division 1 team count has now ballooned to 308 teams for the 2026 season.

I don’t know enough about other teams to specifically disagree with this, but man, I’m a lot more optimistic about our chances this year than that #18 preseason ranking would indicate.

I will be interested to see where the D1Baseball guys slot us in when they release their preseason poll.

Tar Heels come in at No. 18

Tech is a little high, but Burress and Lackey give them two superstars. I would move UCLA to #1, they’re loaded with older returning talent and the best player in the country. I think we’re a tad low here but it makes sense considering the questions in the field.

If the bats in the field are our main concern then we are going to be fine. We may start a little bit slower while they are finding their way. But we have talent . I think the short stop , third baseman, center fielder, catcher and first baseman all with Gavin G all get drafted as position players. So they have talent. The pitching is going to be great.

We lost a lot off a great team so I'm not really surprised by the ranking. Good place to start the season. Something to build on and with our pitching staff among the best in the country, we should have a chance at Omaha.
