Pay no attention to James Franklin hiding behind the curtain with his abysmal record against higher quality opponents.

FWIW… Rhule is not gonna fire Satterfield after one season, especially when you consider that Rhule hand picked his QB. Then factor in all the injuries, no way Rhule fires Satt this year, and probably not next. That being said, I’ve been less than impressed with Satterfield so far and I’m very skeptical that he has what it takes to recruit and develop top QBs.

I also don’t particularly like his play calling in multiple situations. I know our QBs make his job EXTREMELY difficult, but he continues to ask them to do things they aren’t good at. I know they aren’t good at much, Simms should never see the field again, but Haarburg and Purdy have some capabilities if utilized properly. They’re probably not gonna set the world on fire, just don’t be the reason we lose the game.

With the QB play and the injuries, it’s hard to get a good read on the OC and the WR room this season. I think they get a pass.

I seem to remember Satt was going to coach TEs, and Rhule was going to hire a dedicated QB coach. The planned QB coach decided not to leave where he was at, which sort of left Rhule in the lurch. So he was forced to have Satt coach QBs and hired someone unqualified to coach TEs at the D1 level.

Anyone else remember this or am I imagining it?

And then the TE coach resigned due to a DUI.
I wonder if current TE coach Josh Martin has a 1 year or 2 year contract.

Nope that was it. Peetz was going to be QB coach and then backed out at the last second.

He should proceed with caution with Satterfield, it might result in his own firing if offense costs games again next couple of years.

I am not on the blame Satterfield train. If you peruse other team's sites you'll quickly realize the OC is the most hated coach of any program.
Satterfield has to have his players play the game, not second guess anything but up the middle draws.
Iowa has done something similar but they also were gifted with the avoidance of the big 2 on their schedule and a down year for most anyone else.
We can't just run exclusively down the field. You need a relief valve now and then.

Agreed. What's more concerning than 2024 OC is whether we can find a good qb or two plus some wide receivers in the portal.

Donovan might.

Could also see McGuire leaving to coach with his dad. There is a path for this on Techs staff

I don’t think anyone will be fired. But I wouldn’t be shocked if 1-2 coaches “pursue other opportunities”. I don’t know that will happen, but I wouldn’t be surprised. I would be surprised if Rhule straight up fires someone.

I can see that. I don’t think anyone has predicted any firings but it sure doesn’t look good on the offensive side, that’s for sure.
And this was the easiest schedule we will see for the rest of our lives, literally, and we might not make a bowl. Sad.

None of the assistant coaches is going to leave voluntarily and give up their buy-out. They only way they would leave voluntarily is if they had a better offer somewhere else, which will not be the case for any of our assistants on the offensive side.

I don’t think anyone will be hired away. I think, if it were bad enough that Rhule felt he needed to make a move now on someone, (I don’t think he will) he would arrange a lateral or step down position somewhere else and sell it as a mutual decision. But I don’t see that as a likely scenario.

I think Rhule has more brains and football knowledge than the best fan we got, just a guess.

Satterfield should get a year with a better QB and less depleted offense. We are an extremely injured team in year 1 of a rebuild. Let's see what he can do next year.

Penn State is in a completely different spot in their program. They have the talent there including a 5 star QB. They just need something to get over the top. Franklin is basically Bo Pelini. Good coach, but gets beat by all the good teams he plays.
