Tough start to the year for the blue cats. For those not on the football board, I am a Northwestern fan that adopted Kentucky as my SEC team after the big ten initially shut down football. I picked Kentucky because the players and fans were absolute class at the Music City Bowl several years back. In other words, I’m not a hater, just a guy giving his meaningless opinion on an internet message board.

There are 4 things coaches need to do.
1. Get players
2. Formulate a system to win games
3. Develop players in that system
4. In game coaching

1. Calipari can recruit. Period.

2. The system is fine. It’s not like there have been shocking changes in way basketball is played in the last few years. It has become more 3 point dominant, but it’s not like football with the RPO and mobile QBs have taken over.

4. It’s possible Calipari is not a great in game coach but just has better players in a better system and has developed them better. That would explain some close losses. That’s not the big issue.

The big issue
3. Player development: Due to the number of players Kentucky sends to the NBA, Kentucky is young. I checked on ESPN and see 3 upperclassman, and it looks like only 2 really play. I’ve always been impressed by Calipari’s ability to take teams of freshman and sophomores and get them on the same page so quickly. He’s great at it... except here’s the kicker... it’s 2020. The end of last season was cancelled for the NCAA and many HS teams. Summer leagues and summer scrimmages were cancelled. Gyms were closed. Fall practices were effected. Yes, everyone is in the same position... but I think it will have an outsized impact on younger teams and teams with higher roster turnover.

This might be a tough year for Kentucky BBall, or you might turn it around and get middling tourney seed, or Calipari might get it completely turned around by mid-January and Kentucky will be Kentucky and make a tourney run. Idk. I do think given normal circumstances, Calipari and Kentucky will be fine in the future. Hell, if this is the year Kentucky is terrible and nobody leaves early, next year should be phenomenal.

You might have the right perspective to what’s going on. This has been an unusual year for sports, even the diehard fans seem disconnected, BigBlueNation especially.

You’ll get more responses if you start your first post with “I’ve eaten squirrel brains and pigs feet “. We dig authenticity down here.
Trotters are good, never done squirrel in any capacity. I’m adventurous but we haven’t bred diseases out of squirrels.

No offense...I stopped reading. This is the microwave internet. You need to compress that thought.

I’ve never written a post that long in my life. Hell, I wrote essays in college half that length.

Please provide the Cliff’s Notes.

Take your adventurism and start breeding it out. But me, I’ll pass. Nasty little teeth on those things, and I still use my junk occasionally.🤨

I very much appreciate your thoughts and kind words. Most Cat fans see the real issue, that is Cal is a horrific bench coach, if he cannot out talent you and create his offense off of his defense he is in trouble. Watch his half court offense its a three man weave with absolutely not even a solid screen being set then when the shot clock nears expiring, he asks someone to make a play and we do not have anyone that can do
that.

The guy refuses to recruit and or play the kid that might not be uber athletic but can just flat play and this is exactly why we are where we are and I do not see it getting any better. Take a look at the number of KY kids that are playing at high level D1 teams and playing well. This is a big part of the problem imo and Cal has basically flipped of the fanbase and literally demeans them with his derogatory hillbilish comments towards us

You are COMPLETELY wrong about #2 . The way he builds a team AND the outdated offense we’re supposed to be running both need to be changed. So the system IS NOT fine .

I mean I shot some squirrels when I was desperate on the Oregon trail. The computer told me I got a pound of meat. I’m unaware if that was associated with my daughter dying of dysentery 3 days later.

  • Covid threw off the offseason.
  • Young teams and teams with high turnover will be most effected.
  • Calipari hasn't forgotten how to recruit and develop players
  • The game hasn't moved past Calipari's system
  • Might be a terrible year, but all is going to be ok
