Not really new...Marquis Overton has played football the last two years. Intermat is posting he is coming out for the wrestling team.

Marquis wrestled for Jenks, and was 37-1 and a state champ his junior year. I was told he didn’t wrestle his senior year because he wanted to bulk up for football at OU.

Intermat said he weighs about 295 pounds right now. Two weeks in a wrestling room and he’ll easily be under 285. Not sure he’ll be in any kind of wrestling shape, but at that size he’ll be hard to handle for some of the lighter heavyweights. He has strength for days.

Wishing him well.

The ou football coaches said he was to dumb to qualify, didn’t phase him &he still went there. Even if he is a goon you would have thought pride would have sent him elsewhere.

Hmmm...not sure where you got that info. He was originally a Texas signee, but didn’t have a foreign language credit needed to get into Texas. So he was let out of that LOI and came to OU. On scholarship.

I think Overton would be a great heavyweight if he was fully committed to wrestling. He plays too much on the football team to walk away like Hager did. It was Du’Vonta Lampkin that was the UT signee that wasn’t admitted due to a foreign language credit and ended up at OU.

Que was a longtime Sooner commit and there was some worry about him being eligible and the Sooner coaching staff essentially dropped him and told him they didn't want to lose the scholarship if he did indeed end up ineligible.

Things worked out on both ends and he ended up signing and getting eligible but there were some hurt feelings on the Overton and Jenks side of things.
