OT: UMass - Worst Team Ever?

The Athletic (paywall) came up with some metric which made the case that the 2025 UMass Minutemen is the worst FBS or FBS-equivalent team ever. As in ever. Their loss to 3-9 FCS Bryant seemed to be the clincher.

Before anyone asks, the author did reference the Rutgers teams of the 2010's, and said "Not even close."

The Minutemen closed out their winless season tonight with a 42-14 loss to a bad Bowling Green team. I guess "bad" is 28 points better than "epochally bad".

The SMU teams when they first tried to come back from the death penalty. The Northwestern teams in the 70s (Interstate 70 - Northwestern 0). West Point near the end of Vietnam were pretty sad as well

Just saw on another site that between 1976-81 Northwestern was 5-76-1.

Ironically, in 1989 (SMU's first year back from the dead), they had two pretty good wins by today's standards - UConn and North Texas. Both were considered Non-Major at the time.

Harasymiak’s new boss starts today.

Thorr Bjorn moves from Rhode Island athletic director to new role at UMass overseeing the football program. Rhode Island football - a difficult place to win - is 10-2 and ranked #9 in the FCS.

Instead of joining MAC, UMass should have returned to FCS football.

Harasymiak is a great coach but he should've jumped to a SEC DC position then a MAC head coaching job. UMass has turned into a coaches graveyard.

Harasymiak’s post-game press conference following Bowling Green blowout loss bringing UMass to 0-12 was embarrassing.

He put all the blame on the players, said he doesn’t care if they transfer, and he needs to turn over the roster for next season.
