Anyone have any experience with solar panels particularly on new construction? We are going to be building a house soon on 20 acres we purchased. It is way off the road and the power company is going to ask about 10k$ to run power to the site.

Maybe the technology is better now but the people I’ve talked to that have dealt with it say it’s a pain in the ***

I’ve read of people living off the grid with solar power being forced by the local government to get power run to their house. Otherwise it was being condemned as unsafe dwelling.

I don’t know what the cost would be but can you run it underground? We have run power underground to electric rice wells before. The meter pole is next to the road and power runs from there under the ground.

Tesla just lowered the price of their setup. I think it’s around 16k. Used to be around 21k.

Need to go talk to my future neighbor. Would need to piggyback from his pole to mine which wouldn’t be that far. Then would trench it the rest of the way.

Are they available in Mississippi? They were not last I checked. Apparently there are rebates or tax credits for getting a Tesla roof.

I run the numbers every few years, and it would take 20 years to break even. The life on the panels probably aren’t that long, and they just aren’t getting much cheaper.

The cheapest option is to have a setup that feeds back into the grid when you aren’t using the power. You don’t have to have the batteries for that option. You also can’t store power to use when the grid goes down, either. That kind of defeats the purpose for me.

I’m in the Tuscaloosa area. Not sure if what’s available over here, but figured it would have to make more sense than 10k and monthly bills.

Mississippi and our power agencies have never put forth major incentives and Tax breaks/credits to make it feasible. Without them, it just doesnt make sense financially. So the only ones ive really seen im state are people making environmental decisions regardless of cost.
I would love to have them and have a big Tesla battery and feed the grid for rebates but im not going to do it for a 20 year payback
