OT: Renew those passports early

If you are going to travel this summer the WSJ is reporting "expedited" renewal is now taking 7 weeks and regular 11 weeks.

I got my passport (renewal) in 6 business days last year. Non expedited. Helps to know the Post Office in Philadelphia that has a special bin for passports that are delivered to the Customs Building on Chestnut Street where the new passports are made.

Renewed mine about 3 months ago. Took 5 weeks. Not expedited

The potential for a government shutdown later in the year is probably adding to volumes. If they shut down before completing your renewal, you’re SOL. They sit on your docs until they get back to work.

It hasn't really changed much. maybe a week or so at most. This happens all the time.
But, the point still stands- do not wait until a week or two before your travel.

August 2021 went in to USPS for my daughter's passport and they quoted 16-18 weeks, basically around Xmas through early Jan 2022. Didn't need to expedite as had no immediate overseas travel plans so, ok fine, fair enough. Ended up receiving the passport mid-November 2021, after maybe 12-13 weeks.

Different countries have different rules with the expiration too.

Ireland for example says you’re good to visit with 3 months left while Italy says only 6.

Took me 2 years to get my renewal of my green card. Applied in Feb 21 and received it in the mail this month. The sent me a letter in 22 issuing a continuance of the green card so that I could travel internationally
