Well Illinois legalized weed. Once you commute all of the sentences for those crimes, 800k isn't hard to reach. It was also the correct step as well.

I don’t know the answer, but if the answer is to put
More criminals on the street, I’m out.

On the weed issue:
Morally, I don’t really feel that strongly one way or the other abt legalizing weed, but there are negative consequences for such.

Out to where, exactly? Every state but two and every other civilized nation on Earth has a lower incarceration rate than Mississippi. We should be ashamed of ourselves

Yea but once someone is put in prison, they are therefore a 'criminal'. So the question is, using the weed example, should people with a few weed possessions be deemed criminals? (Obviously thats a simplified example ). If using some metric we decide that we as a society don't view certain things as criminal anymore, then you're not really letting criminals loose.

But all of this is much easier if we don't imprison people at such an alarming rate in the first place.

Maybe we have more criminals, thus the higher incarceration rate. Lock them up and keep us safe. The governments primary responsibility is to protect the rights of its citizens. Law enforcement and military are the biggest aspects of preserving freedom. Spend more on that and less on stuff the government isn’t supposed to spend on.

So you think that U.S. citizens are just inherently more likely to be criminals? Or that our country's culture is more prone to breeding criminals than other countries? I don't believe either.

Yep. One of the guys killed in Parchman last week was in for marijuana possession. 5 years. Just baffling we are still locking people up in prison for pot
